The United States Golf Association has accepted a record 454 entries for the 36th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship Sept. 9-14 at Stonewall’s North Course in Elverson.
Golfers who have reached their 25th birthday by Sept. 9 and who have a handicap not exceeding 9.4 are eligible to play.
Krissy Carman, who was recently named assistant golf coach at the University of Oregon, is the defending champion after winning last year at Fiddlesticks Country Club in Fort Myers, Fla.
Stonewall’s Old Course was the venue for the 2016 U.S. Men’s Mid-Amateur, which was won by Stewart Hagestad.
The field of 132 golfers will play two 18-hole qualifying rounds on Sept. 9-10 before the field will be cut to the top 64 players. The first round of match play will be held Sept. 11, followed by the round of 32 and round of 16 on Sept. 12, the quarterfinals and the semifinals on Sept. 13 and the 18-hole championship match on Sept. 14.
Qualifying began this week at 28 sites in the United States and one in Mexico and will continue through Aug. 22.
Admission for the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur is free.
Stonewall officials are looking for tournament volunteers. Sign-ups and sponsorship information are available online at www.stonewalllinks.com.
