Dennis F. Fallon, 86, of Spring Lake Heights passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Dennis was born in the Bronx, and lived and raised his family in Queens, NY, south Florida and Ossining, NY, before settling and enjoying retirement in Spring Lake.
He was a proud graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School (Class of 1954) in the Bronx and Baruch CUNY, where he majored in international business. After a short stint in the Navy’s Officer Training Program, he began a career in business and sales. He was a salesman not only by trade, but by nature, with an easy-going style that quickly enamored him to clients and co-workers, first in GM’s international division and then successive sales and manager positions in the sugar and paper industries.
He was predeceased by his parents John Fallon and Bridget Rushe, and tragically by his beloved daughter Courtney L. (née Fallon) Nerenberg on March 23, 2023.
Surviving is his beloved wife Mary Theresa (née McGarrity) Fallon, his sons Dennis and spouse Denise of Milltown, NJ, Kieran and wife Katie of Leesburg, VA, Matthew and wife Susan of Huntington, NY, NY, and John and wife Beth of Rochester, MN, his son-in-law John ‘Jay’ Nerenberg, his siblings John Fallon of Naples, FL, Ann Meyer Wagner, also of Naples, FL, and Kathleen (née Fallon) Hannon, of Bolton’s Landing, NY, as well as his 14 precious grandchildren.
Dennis was a humble man who had a genuinely good soul. Though he struggled at times, he took great joy in watching his children and eventual grandchildren grow up and prosper. He strongly valued education, and managed to put his 5 children through excellent colleges. Nothing gave him more joy than seeing his children graduate, or nestling with his grandchildren to read a book or watch TV. While not a sports person, he took pleasure in coaching his children’s sports teams when he could, with decidedly mixed results. His open heart was not limited to the human relatives in his life; he had a deep attachment to the family dogs Rebel and Buffy, which was wholeheartedly returned in kind.
Dennis was passionate about his Irish heritage, with his parents and many relatives emigrating to the U.S. from Counties Roscommon and Monaghan, Ireland. He loved to spin yarns of the Fallon clan and “castle”, and proudly displayed the Fallon family crest and history wherever he resided. He combined this passion with a life-long joy of reading, consuming innumerous books on Irish heritage, culture and revolt. In his later years, he anxiously awaited the daily delivery of the New York Times, which he devoured cover-to-cover before turning over its slightly smudged and worn pages to the love of his life, Mary.
Dennis was also a devout Catholic who took comfort in Mass. We know that he is now with God, and was greeted at the gates of Heaven by his only daughter, Courtney (née Fallon) Nerenberg, with a hug, drink and perhaps a cigarette in hand.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 26, 2023 at 10:00 am in St. Catharine’s Church, 215 Essex Ave., Spring Lake.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Dennis’s name be made to the American-Irish Historical Society, NY, NY (www.aihs.org).
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall to offer condolences to the family of Dennis, please visit http://www.obrienfuneralhome.com.
