I wouldn’t call my style coastal. But I LOVE decorating with shells. Living close to the beach, I can’t help but collect them, and I enjoy displaying them around my home.
I keep them in baskets…..
and in acrylic boxes…
and I just added a large collection my son found for me to my summer mantel.
They’re easy to add in here and there. But I also love displaying them in unique ways through simple projects like the shell art gallery wall I created a couple of years ago……
and the lamps I did a few months back.
I’m also drawn to shells when I’m thrifting. This vintage shell box on my living room coffee table holds the tv remote.
And last summer, I decided I want to start collecting small vintage shell mirrors to hang out on our screen porch. So far, I’ve only collected one, but she’s a cutie!
Speaking of mirrors, I want to make a big one for our guest bathroom someday. I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect mirror, and I’ve been imagining a mirror that has a unique shape. Of course, I could just buy this beauty! But I think I’ll be happier and it’ll feel so much more personal with something I’ve handmade with shells I’ve collected from our beach.
But gah, isn’t she gorgeous?!
I think whether your style is beachy/coastal or not there is room for using shells in your decor. But maybe I just think that because I love them so much! They’re like little works of art. And collecting them makes me feel like a kid. ?
1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6 – 7
Number 6 is such a fun idea, adding shells to a terra cotta pot! And I love number 7! It’s giving marsh girl vibes a la Where the Crawdads Sing.
Are you into collecting and decorating with shells?
