Waterford-based Holistic Solutions, the state’s first Black woman-owned medical cannabis dispensary, will begin selling to adult-use customers at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The dispensary, located at 451 White Horse Pike, opened as an alternative treatment center in February and has proudly served a growing number of medical patients in the area.
Suzan Nickelson is the first female and the first Black woman to own a cannabis license in New Jersey.
“Our mission has always been to provide education and access to natural healing solutions, and we are excited to continue that mission for all of our customers,” she said.
Holistic Solutions will continue to offer a curated assortment of premium THC and CBD products, including flower, prerolls, edibles, tinctures, vaporizers, concentrates, ingestibles, topicals and accessories.
The dispensary will feature women- and Black, indigenous and people of color-owned cannabis brands, such as Miss Grass and But-A-Cake, on-shelf, along with Onyx Mana and Dr. Quest Laboratories.
In addition, Holistic Solutions’ existing medical patients will have priority access to the dispensary through a dedicated medical patient entrance and experience quicker check-ins with dedicated staff. They also will have a separate line for check-out.
Nickelson, who has more than 20 years of experience in senior leadership roles in numerous state and government departments, said her company’s mission is to provide compassionate care and education to those who seek holistic and natural treatments.
Despite experiencing firsthand the negative impact of cannabis prohibition, Nickelson said she remains steadfast in upholding the teachings about cannabis cultivation and consumption that have been passed down to her by the women in her family. These women, devout herbalists from West Africa and Jamaica, spent generations studying the plant and using its various properties for healing and spiritual purposes. Their knowledge has been passed down for over a millennium.
Holistic Solutions opened with the help of its minority partner, Eastbound Collective, which was formed in April 2022 by Patrik Jonsson, formerly the Northeast regional president for a large management services organization. In addition to his work with Holistic Solutions in New Jersey, Jonsson has partnered with other cannabis industry veterans across the East Coast at the Collective, a group of cannabis industry veterans who left their positions with existing MSOs to work on a different business model focused on partnering with minority-, veteran- and women-owned businesses to create a more collaborative and inclusive venture that will create new opportunities for a larger group of people.
“I am thrilled to support Suzan and her team at Holistic Solutions as they expand to serve adult-use customers,” Jonsson said. “We want to give a big thanks to the (Cannabis Regulatory Commission) and the inspectors for working with our team and for understanding the significance of allowing us to convert to adult use and thereby opening the door for a whole other group of underrepresented operators. As the cannabis industry evolves, it’s essential that we prioritize equity and inclusion, and I believe that Holistic Solutions is leading the way in that regard.”
Holistic Solutions is open seven days a week, Monday-Saturday (8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.) and Sunday (8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
