To celebrate its 25th anniversary this year, the maker of Crazy Aarons Thinking Putty has planned an event that involves fans of the company’s products.
Aaron Muderick, founder of Crazy Aaron’s — a toy and stress reliever sold around the world — is putting together a time capsule that will be buried and not seen again until 2048, when it will be dug up in time for the company’s 50th anniversary.
Fans of Crazy Aarons Thinking Putty are invited to contribute small mementos — things like pictures, artwork or letters to be included in the time capsule. Selected items will be buried along with the items Crazy Aaron’s plans to include.
Items to be contributed need to be mailed or delivered to the company’s Norristown headquarters by May 10.
Items can be dropped off or mailed to The Shop @ Crazy Aaron’s, 700 East Main Street, Norristown, PA 19401. For those planning to drop off items, the shop is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contributed items cannot be returned.
On May 12, the company will finalize the time capsule and bury it at the company headquarters during a celebratory event for employees.
Muderick is a former software engineer who had an idea on how to improve the “putty we all played with as kids.” He previously told MediaNews Group that before he could develop the final product, he needed to teach himself chemistry — borrowing textbooks from friends. Within a month of coming up with the idea, he was making Thinking Putty.
Muderick moved production of Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty to its current location in March 2018 after it outgrew its Phoenixville location. The company’s retail store also opened in 2018.
The factory is housed in the former Globe Knitting Mills building in Norristown, which dates back to 1898.
Since the company’s inception in 1998, more than 350 Thinking Putty creations have been launched. In addition to Thinking Putty, Crazy Aaron’s has expanded to include Land of Dough. All of Crazy Aaron’s products are made in Norristown. The facility employs about 100.
