Public inquires about Little League shack – Star News Group

SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS — The Spring Lake Heights council fielded questions regarding several Little League amenities during the public comment section of their scheduled meeting on Monday, May 1.

During the public comment section, Gaylen Nolan, a resident, broached the subject of the “shack,” a concession stand located at the Little League fields at 1046 Allaire Rd.

“The Little League shack—I know that some of our funding went to refurbishing that, and it looks beautiful; I peeked in through the window. My son-in-law especially wants to know when he can get hot dogs,” Ms. Nolan said to laughter from the audience. “We’d like to know when that’s going to be open and who will be using it.”

“I’m not sure if this is [a question] for the council, but since I’m here tonight I wanted to see if anybody could answer that,” she said.

“Right now, no one can use it yet,” said Councilman Christopher Willms. “They still have to finalize and close out all the construction permits. Once that’s done, then we get to make the determination as to how the borough in conjunction with [Tri Shore] Little League will move forward.”

“Right now we do not have an agreement with the Little League,” added Borough Administrator John Barrett. “We’ve asked them for a plan, if they wanted to assume running it like in the past; the other option is to look towards an outside vendor, go out to bid and have a professional run it, because obviously we don’t want to transfer something that we’ve just renovated.”

The next meeting of the Spring Lake Heights Mayor and Council will be held Monday, May 15 at 7 p.m., when the council is expected to adopt the borough’s 2023 municipal budget.
