It has been reported this week that Ryan Reynolds has purchased a £1.5M property in the small town of Marford, North Wales.
The Deadpool actor – who is said to be worth £120million – appears to be putting down some roots in Wales after taking control of nearby Wrexham football club.
While it may seem a far cry from his Hollywood lifestyle, it’s actually not too out of the blue for Ryan, as he enjoys a quiet countryside life with wife Blake Lively across the pond.
Living with their four children, the couple are thought to reside around 4 miles from New York State town Pound Ridge – which had a population of 5,104 at the 2010 census.
And from Kate Moss’ quiet countryside life to Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel’s rolling hills residence, MailOnline takes a look at which other stars have moved to quiet towns.
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s NY state home
The famous couple are thought to live around four miles outside of Pond Ridge, a town in Westchester County, New York.
With many parks and a secluded ambience, the town offers a rural feel for residents.
Ryan has previously described it as ‘living on a farm in New York, sharing: We don’t lead a wild and crazy life. I’ve never been the guy stumbling out of bars at three in the morning, at least that anyone is aware of. It’s never been my thing.’
While according to E! News, he and Blake are a ‘staple in the town’s community’, with the outlet sharing that ‘locals describe them as extremely nice and well-liked’
They report: They have a bit of a routine around town that can only be described as, well, idyllic. There’s the Bedford Post Inn, an elegant 19th-century country resort that has long played host to celebs looking to relax and recharge, and the location of Blake’s second baby shower.’
Knowing their quiet life in the US makes more sense of Ryan’s reported purchase in Wales’ sleepy village of Marford.
The quaint village is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of big cities, with its biggest attraction a volunteer-run forest at a disused quarry and just one Co-op shop to its name.
The home – reportedly the ‘poshest in the street’ – is just just five miles north-east of Wrexham where he and fellow movie giant Rob McElhenney run the town’s football club.
Marford has been part of both England and Wales over the years – being just a few miles from the border.
The village has a population of roughly 2,500 people. There are two pubs, one at the bottom of the Marford hill – The Trevor Arms – and the other at the top, The Red Lion.
Kate Moss’ quiet Cotswolds life
Despite being known for her party-hard London lifestyle, Kate Moss spends her time in the central-southwest English countryside these days.
It was revealed that the supermodel, who grew up in Croyden, made the move to the Cotswolds back in 2021.
And while she enjoys a quieter life outside the city, the Grade II listed mansion home is still quite the superstar bad – boasting 10 bedrooms.
Kate previously revealed how much she loved life in the countryside, telling The Times: ‘You do things you could never do in the city — sleeping outside, cooking on a fire, all of those things that, growing up in Croydon, I kind of didn’t have, you know?
‘It’s like having another childhood or being in the Famous Five. It’s those simple things that make your life proper, isn’t it?’
A hit with the locals, Kate is known for regularly been delivering home-cooked meals to the elderly, which come from her brother Nick – who runs a Vietnamese food-delivery truck, dubbed Vietvan.
Her efforts have gone down a treat with the locals, as they have reportedly taken to the government’s official webpage to nominate her for the OBE.
Describing her as ‘really popular’ and ‘part of the community’, locals of Kate’s town, Little Faringdon, explained that they would love to see her with the honour.
One resident told The Sun: ‘She has no airs and graces and chats to everyone. She’s also started giving back, and is dishing out food and meals to the elderly who can’t get out and about.
‘There’s been a lot of talk in the village about how Kate deserves an OBE. She’s a huge admirer of the Queen and made herself very much a main figure in support at the Jubilee. Having an OBE would mean a great deal to her.
‘She’s never come over haughty or entitled and she deserves a gong,’ continued the local.
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel
Married couple Justin and Jessica used to enjoy the A-list life in Los Angeles, but decided to pack up upon becoming parents to children; Silas, seven, and Phinneas, two.
Moving their family to the Western state of Montana, the happy couple bought their property in 2015 as part of the Yellowstone Club in, a private ski and golf resort that sits on 13,600 acres of land.
The duo did previously split their time with their luxurious LA residence, but were said to be selling up the home as they ‘rarely’ spent time there.
Hoping for a more quiet life to raise their children, it’s no surprise that the pair opted for the countryside – with Justin growing up in Memphis, Tennessee while his wife hails from Ely, Minnesota.
Ed Sheeran
While he doesn’t live in a big and busy city, Ed Sheeran’s home is a far cry from modest too.
The Don’t singer owns a 16-acre estate in Suffolk, England, where he lives with wife Cherry Seaborn and their daughter.
Said to be worth £3.75million ($5million), the estate has the nickname ‘Sheeranville and is in the town of Framlingham, Suffolk, where he grew up.
The singer has given his fair share to the community, giving 1,100 pupils at the school free tickets to one of his gigs next month, he also donates clothes to a charity shop in Framlingham’s main square.
He began the ‘mini-village’ back in 2012 by buying a farmhouse, later purchasing four neighbouring homes.
But he has had his fair share of run-ins with neighbours, with many being opposed to his over-the-top planning ideas.
Last year, he was constructing a chapel and burial crypt on the estate, with many locals not being too keen on the idea.
Anna Woods told The Sun: ‘The area is well served by local churches and I feel there is no need for a well-known person to create his own island of calm when lovely places of worship abound in the area.
‘I also note there will be a burial chamber in the building. Are celebrities now so detached from reality that their every living breath, and now even the act of dying, be apart from the rest of us?’
Shape of You hitmaker Ed – who has 18-month-old daughter Lyra with wife Cherry Seaborn and has a net worth of £220million – previously had plans to build a chapel within the boundaries of his Suffolk home rejected.
But he made a new application for the smaller, boat-shaped space, where he could ‘retreat for contemplation, prayer and relaxation’ in 2019, and they were accepted.
Taylor Swift
While she may have attained global stardom, Taylor Swift is also known for enjoying her home comforts and being a loving cat-mum.
The Anti-Hero singer was born in Pennsylvania and moved to Nashville at 14, beginning her career as a country singer.
And sticking to these roots, she now spends a large amount of her time in Nashville, due to the comfort of keeping her privacy.
She bought a sprawling mansion for her parents in the Tennessee capital, alongside a lavish penthouse for herself.
Appearing a big fan of printed furniture, Taylor has previously shared snaps from inside her home via social media – with tapestry furniture appearing to make up a large amount of the home.
Splitting her time between here, Beverly Hills, and New York City, the singer has quite the impressive portfolio of properties.
Cillian Murphy
Originally hailing from Douglas, Ireland, Cillian moved to London while rising to fame in the acting industry.
But after spending 14 years in the big smoke, the Peaky Blinders actor moved his family back to Ireland in 2015.
The actor shares children Malachy, 16, and 14-year-old Aran with his wife Yvonne McGuinness – and previously admitted that his children began to develop ‘posh English accents’ ahead of moving home.
During a chat with Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast, Cillian revealed that their move came as he wanted his children to be Irish.
He explained: ‘We wanted the kids to be Irish. They were sort of at that age where they were pre-teens and had very posh English accents and I wasn’t appreciating that too much! So we decided to come back.
‘We were in London for 14 years, both our kids were born there and we only came back to Dublin in 2015.
‘It’s kind of an Irish story to move away, do your thing and come home, that seems to be a common narrative for Irish people.’
Cillian has also previously admitted that he prefers living in Ireland, sharing: ‘I don’t miss London. There’s only six million people on the whole island of Ireland. It’s just better for your head to have fewer people around, and Irish people are really sound.’
Olivia Colman
She’s known for portraying royalty on Netflix’s acclaimed series The Crown.
And Olivia Colman appears to have her own regal connection in real life, now residing not too far from the royal family’s Sandringham Estate.
After many years of residing in busy London, the actress has made the move to more rural living in Norfolk.
Selling up their five-bedroom home in south-east London at the end of 2021, she and husband Ed Sinclair then moved with their three children to a Grade II-listed barn conversion.
Previously discussing her move away from the hustle and bustle, Olivia told The Guardian: ‘I like being able to be outside and no one can see me. I wear a woolly hat.’
