BELLEFONTE, Pa. (WTAJ)– The Bellefonte Borough Council formally accepted the resignations of two Bellefonte Police Department officers and the former chief at their meeting Monday night.
Now former police chief Shawn Weaver resigned along with officers Matthew Pollock and Jason Brower. Council gave no comment on why the three resigned saying it was a personnel issue.
After accepting the resignations, the council approved the formal designation of Detective William Witmer as acting chief of the police department.
Witmer gave a short speech to the council after being appointed, saying the best thing for the department to do now is to focus on the future.
“I know the last couple of weeks, the last couple months have been hard on us,” Witmer said. “We’ve done the best we can during this time. My message to the department, from now on we need to move forward and put it behind us. There’s only one way to go and it’s forward, that’s what we are going to do from this time on.”
The council also approved a motion to move forward with the hiring process for two new police officers from their eligibility list.
