Smoke was pouring from a home where a fire broke out Tuesday morning in Plum Borough.The fire was reported a little after 7:10 a.m. on Elwood Avenue.Allegheny County 911 dispatchers confirmed crews had been dispatched to the scene.Asst. Chief for Unity Volunteer Fire Department, Glenn Kopec Jr said 14 fire departments responded to the scene. “As you know, daylight volunteers are kind of scarce due to other work commitments. So we had about 14 fire companies on scene to bring this under control,” he said.The fire was creating traffic issues on nearby Unity Center Road. It was not initially known if there were any injuries. Later in the morning, Asst. Chief Kopec Jr said no one was hurt, but a cat died. “It sounds like there were people at home at the time. However, nobody’s been transported. Sounds like they were evaluated on scene and declined transport,” he said. There was also no early word on the cause of the fire.
