In baseball action Monday, Downingtown West scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Oxford, 7-6. Jake Mello drove in three runs and Brett Connolly added two hits and two RBI for the Whippets.
Tom Matuszewski knocked in two runs for the Hornets and Ben Palita chipped in two hits for Oxford.

Downingtown West 7, Avon Grove 0 >> The Whippets swept the Red Devils in Ches-Mont action, winning 48 of 57 games in four doubles matches. At No. 1 singles, Leo Shi topped Joe Ingram 6-0, 7-5, and at No. 3 singles Jack Sheldon outlasted Mason Walker 7-6 (7-5), 6-0.
Softball
Downingtown East 5, West Chester East 0 >> Cougars pitcher Rachael Schumann notched 16 strikeouts and allowed two hits. Lilly Waterer hit a two-run homer while Sophia Kucera went 3-for-4 and two RBI’s. Sam Wendig and Jade Jenkins each added two hits for East.

Azzaranto honored >> The Atlantic East Conference announced their weekly awards on Monday afternoon. Immaculata’s David Azzarano was named the Atlantic East Conference men’s lacrosse player of the week. This is the second time this season that Azzarano has been honored having previously been named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
He had a combined six goals, 11 assists, 17 points, nine ground balls, and two caused turnovers in two games this week. He had three goals, four assists, seven points, seven ground balls, and two caused turnovers vs Marymount on April 3rd. He had three goals, seven assists, ten points, and two ground balls in Immaculata’s win over Centenary on April 6th.
