Thursday, Feb. 8: Music on the Edge at Frick Fine Arts Auditorium

Passionate about bringing contemporary cutting-edge music to Pittsburgh listeners, Music on the Edge (aka MOTE) kicks off 2024 with a performance by the NYC-based quartet HYPERCUBE. The high-energy ensemble will fill the Oakland venue with its take on chamber music spanning electric and acoustic sounds, including saxophone, guitar, piano, accordion and percussion. The diverse program includes work by local and international composers, including Amy Williams, Charles Peck and Annie Hui-Hsin Hsieh, Marcel Castro-Lima, Corie Rose Soumah and Eric Wubbels. Tickets.
Friday, Feb. 9: Hearts in the Garden at Pittsburgh Botanic Garden

Make Mother Nature your Valentine while searching for hidden hearts at one of the region’s most significant environmental attractions. The horticulture and conservation team at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden have been busy crafting heart-shaped designs within the site’s pathways using natural and found materials and now you’re invited to pick up a clue sheet and find them! Friday, Feb. 9: Crafts and Drafts: Local Love at East End Brewing Co.
5-8 p.m.
Who can resist the winning combo of locally brewed beer and locally made crafts? Drink and shop local for happy hour when Crafts and Drafts transforms the Larimer brewpub into a Valentine’s Day market. Party after dark with local sellers who are paired with delish brews, Barmy Soda and East End Chewing Pizza. Runners, joggers and walkers of all fitness levels come together for this pet-friendly race supporting Community Options, which provides housing and employment opportunities for people with disabilities. With a full slate of free Black History Month offerings, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh in Oakland celebrates the Black experience in art through displays, resources, playlists, workshops, concerts and community events. Reserve your spot now for an afternoon with award-winning poet Terrance Hayes. The MacArthur Genius Grant winner’s writing examines “what it means to be an artist and a Black man.” Space is limited, so advance registration is recommended.
