You’ve probably seen a Kansas City Chiefs puffer jacket that has had the whole internet talking. Last month, Taylor Swift wore the custom creation, made by clothing designer Kristin Juszczyk. That jacket inspired a Pittsburgh Penguins fan to create one of her own. She made TikToks documenting the journey, went viral, and even got the Penguins’ attention.Ryan Platt said she saw the verified check mark, “and I was like, ‘Hold on a second, this is actually the Pittsburgh Penguins!’ So it was a bit of a surreal moment. I started freaking out before I even saw what the message said.”Platt is originally from New York City but lived in Pittsburgh for a year after college. She’s not in the area anymore but remains a Penguins fan through her boyfriend. She studied fashion in school and credits Juszczyk’s design as inspiration for her own jacket.Platt said it was a shock when she got a message from the Penguins inviting her to Tuesday night’s game. But getting to that point was not easy. Platt says the whole process took around 52 hours of hard work over about two and a half weeks.”I never imagined posting this, making this, that I would get any sort of notoriety from it,” she said. “But the fact that (the Penguins) saw the jacket and loved it really meant a lot to me.”Platt said the overwhelming response on TikTok shows there is a demand for more everyday sports apparel. “Having something a little more fitted and wearable” that blends into someone’s regular wardrobe “is really important for both men’s and women’s fashion and any fashion out there,” she said.”It’s not just about supporting at games; it’s supporting in your everyday life and having ways to integrate that into your style. …I think it’s a great opportunity for sports teams out there to cater to people who want to be more dressed up or a little more fashionable and go that route instead of super cozy,” Platt said.As for what’s next, she is still exploring possibilities but plans to keep on creating.
