Judith (Judy) Burdette Herr, 87, passed away on January 25, 2024, with her daughter by her side. The youngest of four sisters, Judy was born on March 6, 1936, at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, NJ. She grew up and attended school in Dunellen, NJ, which she recalled with much fondness throughout her life. She enjoyed spending time at the beach and socializing with family and friends.
Once her daughters grew out of the toddler stage, Judy decided to pursue a college education, balancing motherhood and work, with part-time college attendance. Judy graduated with a BA in Education from Trenton State College, and later received her MA in Education from that institution. Judy taught at Waretown Elementary School for several decades until her retirement in 1996.
After retirement, Judy moved to Naples, FL. During her 23 years in Naples, Judy enjoyed the warm weather, the Gulf Coast beaches, new friends, and traveling. She also enjoyed sharing time with her daughter and family living in Naples, her beloved miniature dachshund ‘Mr. Bailey’, and many visits to and from her family in New Jersey.
Judy was predeceased by her parents, Henry, and Mary Bodine Herr; her sisters, Patricia Conneran, Lois Burrell, and Nancy Suppe; and her former husband, Joseph Sawicki. Judy is survived by, and will be greatly missed by daughters, Kim Sawicki (Vincent Buonocore) of Wall Township, NJ, Michelle Zack of Naples, FL, and Dawn Berman (David) of Wanamassa, NJ; grandchildren David Melton, Matthew Melton, Mishell Buonocore, Alexander Kaval (Kevin), Zoe Hunter (John), Kristen Reformato (Vincent), Paige Grainer (Brian), and Troy Loveland; great-grandchildren Grace, Carolyn, Lily Kate, Beau, Ainsley, Wyatt, Cooper, and Audrey; and several nieces and nephews.
