Who needs car service?
Although he lives in New York City, Al Roker was out riding the NJ Transit rails like a regular New Jerseyan this week—and even posted a photo on Instagram to prove it.
“Riding @njtransit to go see my #grandaughter Lotsa seats and no traffic. Whooo whoooooo!!” the “Today” show personality captioned a smiling selfie on the train.
Roker’s ride came amid news that NJ Transit plans to increase fares by 15 percent starting July 1, and an additional 3 percent each year after that.
Roker, 69, became a grandfather in July when his daughter Courtney Roker Laga and her husband, Wesley Laga, welcomed a baby girl named Sky Clara. Since then, Roker has been a doting grandpa, posting photos of Sky and gushing about his newly expanded family.
Following his visit with the baby this week, Roker posted a video from the train station platform of his ride pulling into the station. “Just finished a visit with @ouichefroker and my grandbaby, Sky Clara. She’s is the best. But time to head back to the city,” he captioned the video. Roker also has a weekend home in the Hudson Valley.
For his day trip, the famed weatherman, who is known for his snazzy dressing style, was bundled up in a scarf, a hat and a gray overcoat with a blue flower pinned to it.

NJ Transit happily commented, “Welcome aboard, Al! 😁🚂,” on Roker’s initial post.
Courtney, a recipe developer and content creator, is Roker’s oldest child. She and Wesley tied the knot in the Garden State in 2021 at the Ashford Estate in Allentown.
She gave birth at Holy Name Medical Center over the summer, later sharing details about her “wonderful” experience with “the most amazing doctors, nurses & birthing team” in a cover story for the Bergen County-based hospital’s magazine.
