A LOOK BACK TO REMEMBER BRACKENRIDGE POLICE CHIEF JUSTIN MCINTYRE AND MCKEESPORT POLICE OFFICER SEAN SLUGANSKI. MEMBERS OF THE PITTSBURGH COMMUNITY LOST TWO TRUE HEROES EARLIER THIS YEAR, AND WE WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HONOR AND SALUTE THEM. MCINTYRE LOST HIS LIFE IN THE LINE OF DUTY ON JANUARY 2ND. HE WAS 46 YEARS OLD. TODAY, WE’RE JOINED ON THE FIELD BY THOSE CLOSEST TO HIM, INCLUDING HIS WIFE, ASHLEY, DAUGHTER ALEXIS, AND SON JJ, ALONG WITH FELLOW BRACKENRIDGE OFFICER SERGEANT MIKE DUFFY AND OFFICER CINDY BUSH. ONLY WEEKS AFTER MCINTYRE’S DEATH, OFFICER SEAN SLUGANSKI WAS SHOT AND KILLED ON FEBRUARY SIX. OFFICER SLUGANSKI WAS 32 YEARS OLD. JOINING US ON THE FIELD TODAY ARE HIS MOTHER, TERRI. Fallen officers honored before Pirates’ home opener

Before the Pirates defeated the White Sox in their home opener Friday night, there were some somber moments inside PNC Park.The Pirates organization took the time to honor police officers killed in the line of duty this year.The Pirates looked back to remember Brackenridge police Chief Justin McIntire and McKeesport police Officer Sean Sluganski.”Members of the Pittsburgh community lost two true heroes earlier this year,” the Pirates announcer said. “And we would like to take the opportunity to honor and salute them.”McIntire lost his life in the line of duty on Jan. 2. He was 46 years old.His wife Ashley, daughter Alexis and son J.J., along with fellow Brackenridge officers Sgt. Mike Duffy and Sidney Bush, were at the field to honor McIntire.Only weeks after McIntire’s death, Officer Sean Sluganski was shot and killed on Feb. 6. He was 32 years old. Representing him on the field were his mother Terri, his fiancee Chelsea Consilla and his daughter Haven, along with other family members.Sluganski’s on-duty partner, Officer Chuck Thomas, was shot and wounded in the attack.Thomas stood there on the field with his family by his side.”Officer Thomas, family and friends of these great men, you have our deepest sympathies. You also have our deepest gratitude,” the announcer said.That moment ended with the Pirates organization thanking all those who serve and protect for their bravery and sacrifice.
