DLN All Area Boys’ Soccer First Team
Forward
KOLE WINTERSTEEN, Conestoga, Sr. – A classic striker, Wintersteen was the Pioneers’ top scorer (17 goals, seven assists) and a player every opposing defense had to account for to deal with his power and finesse. “Kole is a dangerous attacking player because he possesses a rare combination of size and skill,” said his coach Dave Zimmerman. “He is not afraid to use his body to physically overpower defenders, but at the same time, he can beat defenders with a vast array of fakes, moves and turns.”
JACKSON NUTTALL, Downingtown East – The runner-up MVP in the Ches-Mont National, Nuttall was one of the area’s most dangerous scorers. An All-Southeast Pennsylvania selection, he poured in an area-best 24 goals and added nine assists this fall. “Jackson had four hat tricks on the season and was an offensive threat all year,” said his coach Tom Creighton.
JACK PELKOWSKI, West Chester Rustin – Finished second in the division MVP race, Pelkowski led the Knights in scoring with 15 goals and 21 points. He earned All-Southeastern Pennsylvania recognition. “Jack was one of the most tireless workers in the area and led from the front. A converted forward from midfield, he was able to become a clinical goal scorer for us this year,” said his coach Ryan Castle.
RAYMOND JUNIOR DIOUF, Phelps School – A rising star, the sophomore amassed 20 goals and 45 points in 18 outings in ’23. The forward has been training with the Philadelphia Under-17 Academy and led the Lions to the PAISAA Finals. “He is our best and most dangerous attacking player, a top attacking player in the area, and one of the top in region,” said his coach Evan Prybutok.
Midfield
RYAN ZELLEFROW, Conestoga – Will be remembered for notching the winning goal in the PIAA Championship Game, but Zellefrow could be the state’s most adept playmaker and distributor. The midfielder played two years in the Portland Timbers developmental system before returning to ’Stoga for his senior year, and tallied 13 goal and five assists. “Ryan is our most talented player, far and away, and what he did was special,” said his coach Dave Zimmerman.
DANNY McGONAGLE, West Chester Rustin – The Player of the Year in the Ches-Mont American, McGonagle scored 11 goals and dished out 11 assists for the Knights, who finished third in the district and won in round one of states. A three-time all-league selection, he was an All-State pick as a senior. “He was the best player at Rustin – calm, composed and a great passer,” said West Chester Henderson head coach Chaz Wilson.
PAT SINNOTT, West Chester Henderson – A junior, Sinnott is a first team all-league selection. He was a dominant force in the midfield for a Warriors’ team that went 17-2. He scored four times and added six assists. “Pat is the most consistent player in the most impactful area of the field,” said his coach Chas Wilson. “He has great vision, passing, defensive instincts, and effort at all times.”
ZACH KILPATRICK, Downingtown West – The senior earned MVP honors for the Whippets, and was a first team All-Ches-Mont pick. He finished with seven goals and 10 assists. “Zach is the type of player that teams just hate playing against,” said his coach Joe Sales. “He is someone who protects the ball so well and moves the ball to manipulate the defense in a way that almost paralyzes the defense.”
Defense
NICK RICCIARDI, West Chester Henderson – Was the anchor that helped guide the Warriors to a perfect 12-0 record in the Ches-Mont. A senior center back, Ricciardi registered eight goals and five assists and was named the Ches-Mont National MVP. He also earned All-Southeast Pennsylvania and All-State honors. “Nick is a physical, tough leader, and he keeps his teammates focused,” said his coach Chas Wilson.
JAMES MAYO, Malvern Prep – The Friars’ team MVP, Mayo is a proven two-way defender. A first-team All-Inter Ac pick, he scored 13 goals and possessed excellent one-on-one skills and commands the backline. “James is a well-rounded player, is very intelligent and a consistently high work rate,” said his coach Susan Barr. Has signed to play at the University of Scranton.
ALEX FEDOR, Downingtown East – Tall and rangy, Fedor and teammate Luis Colmenares-Bittar were the backbone of a strong back line that led the Cougars to a run to the Elite Eight at states. A commit to West Chester and a first-team all-league pick, Fedor had a big hand in East’s 15 shutouts in ’23, and added two goals for good measure.
SCOTTIE ELY, West Chester Rustin – A three-year starter and an all-league pick, Ely headed a backline that recorded 13 shutouts and conceded 19 goals in 24 games. He also contributed on offense with six goals and an assist. “Scottie was an absolute leader for us,” said his coach Ryan Castle. “He was one of the top center backs in the area this year.”
Goaltender
RYAN CARELLA, Conestoga – A 6-foot-6 marvel in the goalmouth, Carella put up numbers for the state champs that are a bit difficult to fathom. A first-team All-Central League selection, he notched 17 shutouts, allowed a mere nine goals in 25 matches last fall, and an astounding single goal in the run of play. That is a goal against average of .68. He even chipped in with four assists.

One of the most successful coaches in the state, Zimmerman guided the Pioneers to the state title, giving ’Stoga the most (six) of any large school in the state. Five of those crowns have been with Zimmerman as the head coach, including two in the last three years. For his 22nd season at the helm Zimmerman orchestrated a 24-0-1 campaign that included a Central League title and the fourth District 1 crown in program history. Along the way, the Pioneers notched 17 shutouts and allowed just nine goals in 25 outings. At the end of the season, Conestoga was ranked second in the nation by the United States Soccer Coaches Association.
