A SWAT situation in Wilkins Township, Allegheny County, came to a peaceful end Sunday after a suspect was taken into custody with no shots fired.According to county police, a SWAT team had been sent to the 500 block of Tongalucas Street around 12:20 p.m. for a suspect who had multiple warrants for his arrest. Police had been at the scene since just before noon, according to county dispatch.County police said in a release that they had believed the suspect to be armed and barricaded inside a home. However, a Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 photographer on the scene did not see that the suspect had any weapons.The suspect’s mother told us that Sunday’s incident began Saturday night as a domestic situation. The suspect was allegedly pulled over by police before fleeing. When police officers tried to serve a warrant Sunday morning, the suspect refused to surrender, at which point SWAT was called, according to the mother. She said her son was under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The suspect surrendered to police and was arrested around 1:30 p.m. He is now in the custody of Wilkins Township. Roads impacted by this SWAT situation have since reopened, county police said in a release. No shots were fired on either side.Police have not identified the suspect in this case.
