TRENTON — New Jersey launched a website dedicated to services for transgender and non-binary people to mark Transgender Day of Visibility on Friday.
Transgender.NJ.gov provides visitors with information about name change processes, ID updates, legal assistance, legal rights and protections, and mental and physical health services. The website takes a step toward more accessible resources and transparent information, Gov. Phil Murphy said in a statement.
The site opened for use as a beta version, meaning it will evolve over time. More than two dozen community groups and over 100 residents offered feedback on needs that the site should address.

Transgender.nj.gov functions as a direct entry point to a focused topic, similar to the COVID19.nj.gov “mini-website” launched during the pandemic. It’s part of a broader “resident experience initiative” aimed at simplifying how New Jersey residents get information about state services.
The Murphy administration has signed legislation and started efforts to expand protections and services for LGBTQ+ residents. Recently, Murphy signed a bill updating the name change process to make it more private and obtainable for people, thus eliminating roadblocks to changing one’s name, as many transgender and non-binary people do to affirm their identity.
