Thursday, October 5, 2023 – Vivid Stage presents the World Premiere of “Grief at High Tide”. (SUMMIT, NJ) — Vivid Stage, in residence at Oakes Center at 120 Morris Avenue in Summit, will present the world premiere of Grief at High Tide by Richard Willett from October 5-15, 2023. When struggling New York photographer Jennifer Evers tells her husband Christopher that the photo she took of him by his mother’s deathbed — the one he never gave her permission to take and asked her not to show anyone — was secretly entered in a very prestigious competition, it doesn’t go well. To try to investigate the role that art plays in real-life relationships, Jennifer goes out on assignment to California, to create a piece on a Pulitzer Prize−winning photograph, Grief at High Tide, which changed the lives of everyone involved.

Friday, October 6, 2023 – New Jersey Festival Orchestra to open season with “Two Mighty Fifths”. (WESTFIELD, NJ) — The four most iconic notes in classical music – Beethoven’s Symphony No.5 – kick off New Jersey Festival Orchestra’s exciting new program for the 2023-2024 season. Saturday, October 7, 2023 – Main Street Theatre Company presents “Dogfight: The Musical”. (OLD BRIDGE, NJ) — Main Street Theatre Company presents Dogfight: The Musical across two weekends from October 7-15, 2023 at the Temple Beth Ohr in Old Bridge. The play takes place November 21, 1963. Sunday, October 8, 2023 – Portuguese Fado Star Carminho to Perform at SOPAC. 2023-09-05 to 2023-10-09 | Classic American Tales presents “Tales at the Dormer House” in the fall. (CAPE MAY, NJ) — Listen to stories by Chester Himes, O. 2023-09-06 to 2023-10-09 | East Lynne Theater Company presents “Love Letters” with a Rotating Cast of Couples with a Connection. (CAPE MAY, NJ) — Before East Lynne Theater Company (ELTC) revs up its fall lineup, the curtain prepares to close on its summer 2023 Mainstage Season with a six-week run of A. R. Gurney’s “Love Letters”– but with a twist. From September 6 to October 14, the play will be performed by a real-life couple with a connection each of the six weeks: three married couples, an engaged duo, and two pairs who share a romantic past.
2023-09-09 to 2023-10-09 | Bergen County Players to Open Season with “Rent”. (ORADELL, NJ) — Bergen County Players (BCP), one of America’s longest-running little theater companies, will open its 91st season on September 9 with Jonathan Larson’s RENT, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning rock musical that shaped a generation of audiences. Performances begin Saturday, September 9 and will run weekends through Saturday, October 14 at the Little Firehouse Theatre in Oradell with shows on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:00pm.

2023-09-13 to 2023-10-09 | McCarter Theatre presents “Bulrusher”. (PRINCETON, NJ) — McCarter Theatre Center opens their 2023-2024 Theatre Series with Eisa Davis’ Bulrusher, a transformational coming-of-age story filled to the brim with passion, humor, and even a touch of magic; on stage in the Berlind Theatre from September 13 – October 7, 2023. This is a co-production with Berkeley Repertory Theatre, where the production will move after its run in Princeton.
2023-09-13 to 2023-10-09 | Pulitzer Prize Finalist Play “Bulrusher” Hits the Stage at McCarter Theatre. Music, humor and clairvoyance are soon to thrill audiences at McCarter Theatre Center in the form of Eisa Davis’ Pulitzer Prize finalist play, “Bulrusher.” A period piece set in 1950s California, “Bulrusher” is the coming-of-age tale of a multiracial young woman bestowed with the gift of clairvoyance as she navigates life in her mostly white town. More than a fish out of water story, Bulrusher highlights the beauty, complexity and compassion that make life the nuanced ride that it is.
2023-09-13 to 2023-10-09 | Cape May Stage presents “The Garbologists”. (CAPE MAY, NJ) — Cape May Stage presents The Garbologists by Lindsay Joelle from September 13 to October 22, 2023. Directed by Roy Steinberg, this is an unconventional buddy comedy play that follows two sanitation workers in the cab of a New York City garbage truck. Tasked with picking up what the world has discarded, they learn there’s more that binds them than just picking up the trash.
2023-09-21 to 2023-10-09 | The Black Box to present Sam Shepard plays, including U.S. Premiere of “Little Ocean”. (ENGLEWOOD, NJ) — The Black Box – NJ’s incubator for new and under-produced works by world-class artists – is proud to present Sam Shepard’s groundbreaking plays Action, The Unseen Hand, and the U.S. premiere of the unpublished Little Ocean, running from September 21 through October 8. For this 2023-24 Season opening fundraiser, limited tickets for 10 shows only are now on sale for performances on the 2nd floor of 8 East Palisade Avenue, Englewood, NJ.
2023-09-22 to 2023-10-09 | The Barn Theatre presents “Suite Surrender”. (MONTVILLE, NJ) — The Barn Theatre in Montville, NJ kicks off their 96th Season with the rib tickling, side splitting comedic farce Suite Surrender, written by Michael McKeever and directed by Todd Mills of Boonton, running weekends from September 22 to October 8, 2023. The setting is 1942 at the Palm Beach Royale, where we meet two of Hollywood’s most famous Diva’s Claudia McFadden played by Montclair’s Jessi Baden and Athena Sinclair played by Montclair’s Rachelle Rennagel.
2023-09-22 to 2023-10-09 | Unpublished Sam Shepard Play “Little Ocean” Starts U.S. Premiere With “Action” and “The Unseen Hand” at The Black Box. (ENGLEWOOD, NJ) — In association with the Estate of Sam Shepard, The Black Box – NJ’s incubator for new and under-produced works by world-class artists – is proud to present Shepard’s groundbreaking plays Action, The Unseen Hand, and the U.S. premiere of the unpublished Little Ocean, starting next week on September 21 through October 8, 2023 for ten shows only!
2023-09-26 to 2023-10-09 | George Street Playhouse presents “The Pianist”. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) — George Street Playhouse presents The Pianist, a play with music, based on the memoir “The Pianist” by Wladyslaw Szpilman and directed and adapted for the stage by Emily Mann (Broadway: A Streetcar Named Desire, Having Our Say, Anna and the Tropics). The Pianist begins previews on September 26, with an official opening night set for September 29. The play runs through October 22.
2023-09-26 to 2023-10-09 | Emily Mann and Daniel Donskoy on “The Pianist” at George Street Playhouse. The Pianist, a new play at the George Street Playhouse, strikes deep personal chords with the playwright and the actor in the title role.
2023-09-28 to 2023-10-09 | Jersey City’s Classical Theatre Company to Re-Launch as The Curtain with “Romeo & Juliet”. (JERSEY CITY, NJ) — Shakespeare@, Jersey City’s premier classical theatre, announced they will re-launch as The Curtain, with an all-new production of William Shakespeare’s classic Romeo & Juliet. Directed and Adapted by Sean Hagerty, The Curtain’s Romeo & Juliet will play the Nimbus Arts Center (329 Warren Street), in downtown Jersey City just steps from the PATH train, with performances from September 28 through October 22, 2023.
2023-09-28 to 2023-10-09 | World premiere play “Child Support” explores emotional and financial repercussions of playing the ‘child support game’. (CAMDEN, NJ) — Urgent, searing and wildly inventive, the world premiere of Child Support by Desi P. Shelton uses humor and hypertheatricality to examine single parenthood and financial responsibility from the points of view of everyone impacted by a broken system. A site-specific, immersive experience set in a typical Camden row house, the action is scored by composer Jamal P. Dickerson and features a live band under the eye of musical director JoJo Streater. Barrymore Award-winner Ozzie Jones directs for an October 13 opening, with performances running through October 28 at Camden Repertory Theatre. Public previews begin September 28.
2023-09-30 to 2023-10-09 | Two River Theater announces Cast and Creative for “Hair”. (RED BANK, NJ) — Two River Theater has announced the cast and creative team for their highly-anticipated production of the American Love-Rock Musical, Hair, directed by Craig Noel Award winner James Vásquez (Under a Baseball Sky, American Mariachi) and with original choreography by Mayte Natalio (Love in Hate Nation), running September 30 – October 22, 2023, kicking off the theater’s 30th Anniversary Season.
2023-09-30 to 2023-10-09 | NJ Rep to Present the World Premiere of “Welcome To Matteson!”. (LONG BRANCH, NJ) — New Jersey Repertory Company (NJ Rep) will close out its successful season with the World Premiere of Welcome To Matteson! written by Inda Craig-Galván and directed by Dawn Monique Williams. It will begin performances on September 28 before its opening night on Saturday, September 30, and run through October 29, 2023.
2023-09-08 to 2023-10-09 | Fall 2023 New Jersey Film Festival Preview. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) — The Fall 2023 New Jersey Film Festival takes place September 8th through October 8th with screenings on Fridays and Sundays. The festival remains a hybrid one with in-person screenings at Rutgers University and films available via video on demand for 24 hours on the screening date. Nineteen films will have their New Jersey or Area Premiere (Middlesex County) screenings during the New Jersey Film Festival and the United States Super 8 Film and Video Festival.
Tuesday, October 3, 2023 – “Diary of Times” a Solo Exhibition at the Riverside Gallery. (HACKENSACK, NJ) — Riverside Gallery presents a solo exhibition titled, “Diary of Times,” featuring the works of the artist Jay Chung, from October 3-18, 2023 with an opening reception on Saturday, October 3rd from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. In pursuit and exploration of harmony as a human possibiity Chung continues his vibrant and colorful body of abstract Epoxy Resin paintings, but he has also been developing a new body of work that he calls “Times Writing” and “Human Faces.”
Wednesday, October 4, 2023 – The Newton Theatre presents Roger McGuinn on October 4th. (NEWTON, NJ) — The Newton Theatre presents Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Roger McGuinn on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at 8:00pm. Jim McGuinn, later known as Roger, was already a veteran of the New York and Los Angeles music scenes when he co-founded the group that would become the Byrds with Gene Clark and David Crosby in 1964. Prior to forming the Byrds, Roger toured and performed with the Limeliters, Chad Mitchell Trio and Bobby Darin as a guitarist and banjo player. He was also the musical director on Judy Collins #3.

(NEWTON, NJ) — Award-winning, internationally renowned blues-rock guitarist, singer and songwriter Coco Montoya will celebrate the September release of his sixth Alligator Records album (and first release in four years), Writing On The Wall, with a live performance at The Newton Theatre in Newton on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 8:00pm.
Saturday, October 7, 2023 – Blending Flavors and Movement – Roxey Ballet to perform at Old York Cellars Winery. (RINGOES, NJ) — Old York Cellars and Roxey Ballet Company are collaborating to bring the taste of wine and the beauty of dance to the hills of Hunterdon County at the award-winning winery in Ringoes, NJ on Saturday, October 7, 2023 (Rain date October 14th). (HAMILTON, NJ) — This spring, a Grounds For Sculpture exhibition will present a multi-faceted portrait of the Indian diasporic community in New Jersey, through first-person narratives, images, and objects. Local Voices: Memories, Stories, and Portraits is created in partnership with 15 community members and led by artist, teacher, and journalist Madhusmita “Madhu” Bora. It is one of two concurrent exhibitions that inaugurate the new Perspectives series at GFS and explore the role of creating person-centered exhibitions, ensuring individual and communal agency in the art of storytelling.

(PRINCETON, NJ) — “Nobody Turn Us Around: The Freedom Rides and Selma to Montgomery Marches: Selections from the John Doar Papers” showcases over 30 photographs and documents from two watershed events during the 1960s U.S. civil rights movement: the Freedom Rides of 1961 and the Selma-to-Montgomery marches of 1965. The exhibition runs Monday, April 24 through March 31, 2024 at Seeley G. Mudd Manuscript Library in Princeton.
2023-07-22 to 2023-10-09 | Nassau County Museum of Art presents Modigliani and the Modern Portrait. (ROSLYN HARBOR, NY) — Wherever and whenever Amedeo Modigliani’s paintings go on view, crowds gather, experts turn out to debate, social media lights up and auction records fall. This Modern master personally changed the history of the portrait, adding the emotional and painterly power that has inspired generations since his untimely demise, the archetypal story of the doomed Bohemian genius. The Nassau County Museum of Art presents Modigliani and the Modern Portrait from July 22-November 5, 2023. Curated by Dr. Kenneth Wayne, the world’s leading Modigliani scholar (founder of The Modigliani Project that researches the authenticity of works), this show will feature several spectacular paintings by the master, including the world premiere of two newly confirmed Modigliani paintings unveiled on this occasion.

Brodsky set out to rectify the gender and racial inequities in the art world by establishing a print- and papermaking studio that provided visiting artists residencies primarily for women artists and artists of color. Pioneers like Brodsky laid the groundwork for the diversity that exists today. This fall, the Zimmerli Art Museum presents the first museum survey of work created by artists such as Faith Ringgold, Melvin Edwards, and Jaune Quick-To-See Smith at this highly influential atelier—now known as the Brodsky Center—founded in 1986 and remaining active on campus for 30 years.
