This past winter, the Main Line high school boys’ basketball scene featured a number of strong teams.
Lower Merion (28-2) captured its third PIAA District 1 6A title in the past four years, went 21-0 against Central League opponents, was undefeated at home, and enjoyed a 19-game winning streak that lasted until the Aces lost to Archbishop Wood in the second round of the PIAA 6A state tournament, 66-64.
A couple of Main Line Catholic League teams made it all the way to the state finals – Devon Prep captured the PIAA 3A state title, and Archbishop Carroll advanced all the way to the PIAA 4A state championship final. The Tide also won the District 12 3A title.
The Central League featured a number of strong local teams, other than Lower Merion – namely Radnor (22-6), Conestoga (16-11) and Harriton (14-8). Other strong local contenders were Friends’ Central (18-6), Haverford School (17-10), Malvern Prep (16-10) and Episcopal Academy (15-10)
The All-Main Line high school boys’ basketball teams are selected by the coaches. Because Main Line Media News covers 19 high schools, the Main Line Media News sports staff limits the number of sports available to first team, second team and honorable mention – but follows the priority of the coaches’ selections.
