Fans of German food and, especially, beer won’t have to wait until Oktoberfest to get their fix.
Brauhaus Schmitz will host its 11th annual Maifest spring festival and block party on Saturday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. along the 700 block of South Street in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia’s premiere German restaurant and beer hall will close down South Street for an all-ages celebration that will feature authentic German culture, live music, food and of course, plenty of beer.
The festivities will include Pennsylvania’s largest Maypole, performances by Die Heimatklange Band and United German Hungarian Dance group, Liter Lift Competition, a Pig Roast, face painting, flower crowns, key tapping, games and fun for the whole family. The all-day outdoor block party is free to attend, with food and drink pay as you go.
“Brauhaus Schmitz is proud to bring this tradition to the heart of Philadelphia’s South Street district for an unforgettable day of fun and merriment,” said Brauhaus Schmitz owner Doug Hager. “Our block party has become a cherished tradition for locals and visitors alike, and we can’t wait to celebrate with South Street and our community. Come raise a liter with us under the giant Maypole.”
VIP tickets are also available for $100 and include food, drink and access to the Brauer Bund where you will find seating, private bathroom, an extensive German food buffet and TVs to catch sporting events of the day and the Kentucky Derby.
