NORRISTOWN — A $3.37 million contract securing work for a road repair program in Montgomery County was authorized last week.
The $3,371,695 agreement with Allan A. Myers LP, of Worcester, covered “removal and replacement of roadway pavement” as well as a myriad of other services, including drainage improvements, pavement markings, signal improvements, asphalt and concrete base repairs, and making concrete curb ramps compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
Funding was obtained from the Montgomery County Capital Improvement Program, according to the contract. The Worcester Township-based company was one of four respondents to a previously issued request for proposals and came in with the lowest bid. Other firms disclosed by county officials included a $5.03 million bid from N. Abbonizio Contractors Inc, of Conshohocken; a $3.79 million bid from James D. Morrissey Inc., of Philadelphia; and a $3.55 million bid from Highway Materials Inc., of Flourtown.
The seven-figure agreement was one of a dozen items included in the roughly $5.6 million package unanimously authorized by Montgomery County Commissioners’ Vice Chairman Neil Makhija and Commissioner Tom DiBello. Montgomery County Commissioners’ Chairwoman Jamila Winder was absent from the April 4 meeting.
While a majority of the contracts focused on the Montgomery County Department of Assets and Infrastructure, others aided work in various departments such as the county’s Health and Human Services and Public Safety departments.
A roughly $854,474 agreement with Road-Con Inc., of West Chester, covered a “bridge maintenance package” for bridges in Lower Frederick, Lower Providence, Towamencin, and Upper Hanover townships.
The specifications encompass “maintenance, repairs and other associated work required” at County Bridge No. 90, located on Simmons Road over the Scioto Creek; County Bridge No. 142, located on Germantown Pike over the Skippack Creek; County Bridge No. 218, located on Sumneytown Pike over the Towamencin Creek; and County Bridge No. 229, located on Eleventh Street over the Macoby Creek, according to the contract.
Funding was obtained through the county’s capital improvement program, and the Chester County-based firm was one of two companies that expressed interest in the contract. Eastern Highway Specialists Inc., of Wilmington, Delaware, submitted a roughly $1.72 million bid.
An approximately $488,987 agreement with Michael Baker International, of Fort Washington, covered “preliminary engineering services” required to replace County Bridge No. 289, located along Penllyn Pike over the Wissahickon Creek, in Whitpain Township.
Funding was “100 percent federal,” according to the contract, which was originally advertised via PennDOT’s Engineering and Construction Management System.
Additionally, a $302,550 records management system agreement with Computer Square Inc., dba CSI Technology Group of Keasbey, New Jersey, was renewed for another year.
The six-figure contract procured “a countywide law enforcement record management system (that) allows sharing of information among all county criminal justice agencies.”
It will take effect on May 14 and services will be available through May 13, 2025. Funds were obtained through the county’s general-operational budget.
The next Montgomery County Board of Commissioners meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. on April 18 on the eighth floor of One Montgomery Plaza, 425 Swede St., Norristown. Those interested in attending can also do so virtually. Visit montgomerycountypa.gov for more information.
