United Airlines together with Seagis Property Group held a ribbon-cutting last week to mark the opening of a 165,000-square foot United Cargo facility at Newark Liberty International Airport that will allow one of the airline’s highest-revenue entities even more space to manage its busy cargo operations.
Located at 100 Frontage Road, the facility is a several-minute drive from the airport and increases United’s cargo availability to a net gain of more than 77,000 square feet in facility space and total cargo space at EWR to 319,000 square feet.
United said its EWR cargo operation supports more than $450 million in annual revenue, and a 15-20% increase in tonnage is expected by 2026, and around a 30% increase by 2030. EWR is especially vital to the United Cargo operation and represents nearly 30% of its global tonnage and revenue.
Several United leaders, state and local elected officials and other stakeholders were present and gave remarks.
“I’m very proud to be here for such a momentous occasion,” Mike Hanna, United’s senior vice president of airport operations, said. “This investment in EWR is incredibly important because it’s such a critical hub for us across the network. It’s not only one of our most important hubs, but a gateway to the world, as we serve 61 international destinations. As one of the largest employers in New Jersey, we want to invest in the fabric of the community — making sure we partner with local companies across the tristate area. We’re continuing to make great investments in this hub as the New Jersey hometown airline.”
Newark Business Administrator Eric Pennington commented on the size of the ceiling fans, noting that the people who built the facility made sure that the people who will work in the space will be able to do so in an environment that allows them to do their job in comfort.
“We want to make sure that companies come here to stay here, and it’s obvious that United chose this facility because they want to be here and grow,” Pennington said. “One of the things that I’m most proud of with our partnership is, every time United makes improvements to anything, they work hard to make sure that the people of Newark are part of that process — something we’re very grateful for.”
