MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) – The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is alerting drivers of a phishing scam targeting E-ZPass account holders.
Sunday afternoon, Turnpike officials were advised of the scam. According to a press release, pass users received text messages from a number that purports to be “PA Turnpike Toll Services.” The texts attempt to request personal financial information to settle “outstanding toll amounts.”
Customers who receive an unsolicited text, email or similar message suggesting it is from E-ZPass or another toll agency should not click on the link provided in the message. E-ZPass account holders can use approved safe methods to check their accounts such as the official PA Turnpike E-ZPass website or the PA Toll Pay app available on the Apple App Store and Google Play store.
