Continuing to track Monday’s weather for the solar eclipse too…
EVENING: Peeks of Sun with Scattered Showers, Thunder. Temps near 50.
TONIGHT: Partially clearing skies, breezy. Low 37.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy and breezy with a stray afternoon shower. Northwest winds 10-15mph. High 48.
Many areas across Central PA picked up between 3-4″ of rain since the month began this past Monday. Although it was spread out over several days, it was enough to cause minor flooding along streams and creeks in the region. Even the Juniata and Susquehanna will get close to their banks in spots today and tomorrow- but stay below flood stage. The good news? The heavy rain is finished and all rivers, creeks, and streams will begin to recede later today and tomorrow depending on their crest time. To view all local waterways, their current levels, their crest times, and their forecasted levels, visit our “River Levels” page here.
This evening is a challenge to enjoy time outdoors. The sunshine is encouraging us to get outside, but we also need to watch passing showers that are moving through the area. These showers will taper after sunset as we lose the energy of the day.
Winds increase for Friday and Saturday as we begin to dry out and the upper low will eventually pull away. The northwesterly winds of 10-20 mph will also keep it chilly to start the weekend. Winds relax with more sunshine for Sunday, which will be the best day of the weekend to enjoy the outdoors. Highs will warm into the mid to upper 50s.
Monday’s eclipse viewing is something we are watching closely. While perfectly blue skies aren’t expected, a mix of sun and clouds should allow us to view some of the eclipse on Monday afternoon. Locally, we will have 90% totality which will peak at 3:18pm. Here’s hoping showers and clouds stay away! We will continue to monitor the forecast for Monday afternoon. Stay tuned!
