Police charge driver in Lower Merion crash that killed woman and unborn child

LOWER MERION — Lower Merion police have charged an 81-year-old driver in a crash that killed a woman and her unborn child in December.

Police identified the man who was charged as Alan Rosenbaum of Bala Cynwyd.

According to police, the crash took place on Dec. 30 at 2:47 p.m. at West Rock Hill Road near Bryn Mawr Avenue when the vehicle Rosenbaum was driving struck two parked vehicles and five pedestrians.

Latoya M. Handy-Hunter, 36, of the 4200 block of Ogden Street, Philadelphia, and her unborn child were killed as a result of the crash.

“Upon conclusion of this investigation, it was determined that driver error caused this deadly crash,” Lower Merion said in a press release issued Tuesday afternoon.

Rosenbaum has been charged with summary offenses of careless driving with an unintentional death, careless driving with serious bodily injury and related offenses.
