New Jersey has great camping, but sometimes it’s nicer to have some comforts of home while out in nature. So why not try glamping, a more luxurious alternative to sleeping under the stars?
Glamping has become more popular in recent years, with sites offering tents that include amenities like beds, personal lawns, Wi-Fi and even hip design elements. For your next trip into the great outdoors, try one of these glampsites.
Perfect for a weekend trip with friends or a romantic getaway, Moon Valley is located right off the steps of the Appalachian Trail and offers a variety of glammed-up accommodations with sturdy wood paneling, warm, earth-tone interiors, and chic decor elements. The most spacious option is the Lookout, a yurt-style bell tent complete with a queen-size bed (with bedding) and a scenic view to the horizon. A private fire pit and picnic table are outside. Tents go for $150-$275 per night (two-night minimum).
Starting in June (and taking reservations now), animal lovers can glamp right in the middle of Six Flags Great Adventure’s Wild Safari. Twenty luxury tents fit up to six people each. A stay includes breakfast, evening events, close-up experience with the giraffe herd, a multi-park ticket, and the opportunity to book a VIP tour. Cost is $600 per night (two-night minimum). —R.C. What’s more, Sun Outdoors in within driving distance of beaches like Wildwood and Cape May. Rentals start at $49 per night.
Accommodations range from basic cabins to Captain’s Cottages, which fit six to eight people and come with a kitchen, granite countertops, an enclosed, screened porch with a dining set, air conditioning, and more. A playground and arcade are on the grounds. Sea Pirate is located next to the Westecunk Creek, where you can observe wildlife and kayak. Rentals start at $279 per night (2-night minimum).
Looking for an upscale camping experience with several options for keeping the kids busy? Tip Tam has mini-golf, matchbox derbies, karaoke nights and more. Cabin and RV rentals feature full kitchens, smart TVs, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and one or two bedrooms. Rentals go for $79-$89 per night.
