Meredith Lee Spear Spencer, affectionately known as Merelee, 77, of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, departed from this life on the 16th of March, 2024. Merelee was cherished for her radiant beauty, boundless kindness, and deep-seated compassion for others. A lover of the sun and sea, she enjoyed her summer days on Howe St. Beach with her favorite book.
Merelee leaves behind a loving family, including her three children, Tara Cooper, Lincoln O’Hare, his wife Tamara, and Thomas O’Hare; her six treasured grandchildren, Emily, Allison, Bobby, Daniel, Elie, and Emma; her six stepchildren, Doug, Amy, Jenny, Matt, Katie, and Lauren; and her dog Sammie. She now joins in eternal rest her late husband, Kenneth Spencer, who was her partner for three decades, as well as her dearly remembered pets, Samantha, Baby, Molly, Duffy, Bella, Reese, Zippy, Sweetie and Jake.
A proud graduate of Wardlaw Hartridge, class of 1964, Merelee furthered her education at Colby-Sawyer College, graduating in 1966, and later pursued a Nursing Degree, which she obtained from Ocean County College in 1983. Straight out of college she lived and worked in NYC for Ad Agency Ogilvy and Mather and then in Administration at Muhlenberg Hospital, Plainfield NJ. She later received her Nursing Degree and was employed by Pt. Pleasant Hospital and then Claremont Care Center (currently Crest Pointe) in Point Pleasant for 25 years. Her passion for caring for others was so strong that even in her years after retirement, she continued to make weekly visits to Claremont.
Merelee’s life was rich with hobbies that spoke to her nurturing spirit; she found great pleasure in reading, tending to her garden, and feeding the various wildlife that frequented her home. She had a deep love for baseball and the Yankees. Her generous heart also led her to participate actively in the Therapy Dog Community, where she made significant contributions.
A private memorial service will be conducted in honor of Merelee’s memory. To celebrate her life, a gathering will be arranged come spring. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be directed to the Jersey Shore Animal Shelter at 185 Brick Blvd, Brick, NJ 08723, in remembrance of Merelee’s love for all creatures.
Merelee Spencer will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. May her soul find peace and tranquility in the hereafter.
Services are entrusted to Jersey Shore Cremation, 43 Taylor Avenue, Manasquan, NJ.
