The Pittsburgh St. Patrick’s Day Parade featured the traditional marching bands, dance troupes and floats making their way through the streets of Downtown Pittsburgh. The parade kicked off at 10 a.m. For more than 150 years, the annual parade has attracted huge crowds. This year, as many as 200,000 spectators are expected to line the route.Marchers gathered outside the Greyhound bus station at Liberty Avenue and 11th Street. The parade then proceeded to Grant Street, then to the Boulevard of the Allies, turning right and heading toward the end of the route at Commonwealth Place.Madalyn Byrnes, a Springdale native who attends Robert Morris University, was this year’s Miss Smiling Irish Eyes. Her court maidens are Anna Catherine Hanley, of Sewickley, and Baldwin’s Brooke Ireland McArdle. The Grand Marshal of the Pittsburgh St. Patrick’s Day Parade was Rob Tierney. One will be located at South 18th Street from East Carson to Wrights Way. The other will be at 20-26 Bedford Square off of South 12th Street.PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Check the Pittsburgh Regional Transit website for bus and light rail schedules.Around 50 PRT bus routes are detoured due to the parade.
