Margaret Morris
12/1/1934 – 1/9/2024
Spring Lake, NJ
Margaret Millicent Morris, affectionately known as Cis, passed away peacefully at home with her family. Predeceased by her adoring parents, Wilfred and Margaret Morris of Jersey City, and brother-in-law, Robert E. O’Brien of Deal, NJ. Survived by her sister, Helen O’Brien and her devoted nieces, Deirdre Sonsini, and Erin Burgdorf, and nephews, Bobby O’Brien, Christopher O’Brien, William O’Brien, and her many grand and great grand nieces and nephews; John, Terrence, Molly, and Matthew O’Brien, Casey Rae and Max O’Brien, Eva, Hugh, and Ella Burgdorf, Rose and George O’Brien, Emmet and Arthur O’Brien, Levi and Adelaine O’Brien.
Cis was beautiful, generous, witty, charming and a constant blessing to our family. She lovingly cared for her mother through the end of her life, while working full time. She was a graduate of St. Aloysius in Jersey City, where she made many lifelong friends. Following her long career – first at Colgate Palmolive and then at IT&T in Manhattan, she retired to her home in Spring Lake and enjoyed an idyllic seashore life – daily morning mass at St. Catharine’s, walking the boards, and soaking up the glorious extended summers at the South Pavilion pool with the locals. She loved to travel and visited many destination spots in the US and abroad and enjoyed winters in Palm Beach. Cis volunteered at the Mercy Center in Asbury Park for many years.
Margaret was a friend, confidant and devoted sister to Helen, always available to help her with holiday dinners, gardening, babysitting and whatever needed to be done. She was a sweet, loving, and caring Aunt – every milestone, every apartment or house move – no matter how unpleasant the task – she was always there in the clutch – with her sleeves rolled up ready to lend us a hand. She was known for her extraordinary baking skills and regularly showed up for holiday and special occasions with magazine-cover worthy confections – cakes, tarts, trifles, Christmas cookies and of course – the Irish Soda Bread! Our family will never be quite the same and she will be dearly missed and forever admired.
Special thanks to Janet La Forge, her dearest friend, and Margaret Cook, her kind and tender caregiver, who never left her side until her last breath.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, April 19th at 10 am at St. Catharine’s in Spring Lake.
