CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Two humane societies in Central Pennsylvania have stepped up to help care for nearly 60 cats that were rescued from a hoarding situation.
The Humane Society of Cambria County took 59 cats out of one house, in what they called an “extreme hoarding case,” on Monday, March 11, and are now caring for 49 of them. The Central PA Humane Society took 10 of the cats that were rescued. In the photos they posted, several cats appear to be heavily matted and covered in feces.
According to the Animal Protective Services of The Humane Society of Cambria County, the cats are all in varying in severity of health concerns. The cats were rescued from a situation on Monday, March 11 and all of them will need veterinary care.
The shelter is currently looking for fosters and adopters as they are in desperate need of help. They are also asking for multiple items to help with the care of the cats.
Here’s what the Humane Society of Cambria County is asking for:
- Adult cat food (Purina Cat Chow Blue bag)
- Purina wet food
- Blankets
- Litter boxes
- litter (non clumping)
- Monetary donations towards veterinary care
They added that there is a possibility of some of the cats being pregnant and are looking for donations like Purina Kitten Chow (yellow bag) and Fancy Feast kitten wet food, KMR and any other kitten supplies.
The humane society added that they’re overwhelmed and are in desperate need of any type of support. They were already housing 38 cats before Monday’s rescue.
