(WJET/WFXP)– The Steelers continue their offseason shake-up of the roster this week by releasing veteran safeties Keanu Neal and Patrick Peterson.
According to ESPN, the Steelers will be releasing the 34-year-old Peterson in a move that will save the team $6.85 million in cap space with a $2.92 million dead cap hit after one season with the team.
Peterson was set to make $9.77 million this upcoming season but will be on the open market again after racking up 42 combined tackles, eight assists and two interceptions in 17 games last year.
Neal was also released on March 7 with a failed physical designation the team announced. The move will save the team $2.2 million in cap space after the veteran defender accumulated 50 tackles, 33 of them solo, while pulling in one interception and fumble recovery last year.
With these moves, the Steelers will have an estimated $18,413,646 in cap space heading into free agency.
