BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A verbal argument in Altoona turned into a woman being shot in the foot and police finding multiple weapons and materials to create explosives on Monday evening.
Jordon Havlin, 30, of Altoona, is charged with felony aggravated assault for allegedly shooting a woman in the foot, which led to her big toe being nearly completely severed.
The Altoona Police Department received the call around 7:30 p.m. on March 4 for reports of a woman being shot along the 1500 block of Logan Ave. When police arrived they saw the victim being treated by AMED and Havlin.
Police said Havlin was not cooperative with their investigation and was detained. According to the criminal complaint, Havlin said an unknown man was responsible for the shooting, but would not tell police who it was because he’s “not a rat.”
Havlin was arrested on an outstanding Sheriff’s warrant and taken to the Altoona Police Department. While searching him, police noted in the affidavit they found three gabapentin pills and a gram of methamphetamine. During the ride to the station, Havlin allegedly admitted to police that he was taking narcotics.
As they continued to interview Halvin, he told police that the victim wanted to say she shot herself in the foot, instead of it being his “buddy.” According to the criminal complaint, Halvin told police that his “buddy” had brought the gun and they were standing in the living room when the woman accidentally shot herself in the foot. He claimed to police he lied about her involvement due to his fear of her facing consequences. Halvin also told police after this his “buddy” left with the gun.
At the house, police did find a hole in the carpet in the living room and inside they found a brass projectile inside. Officers continued to search the home, finding three ballistic vests and magazine pouches for an AR-15 along with an empty pistol magazine pouch in the master closet upstairs.
While speaking with the woman at the hospital, she told police she and Havlin had been arguing downstairs. Eventually, according to the woman, they went upstairs into the master bedroom where they continued to argue.
At this point, the woman told police that Havlin grabbed a silver handgun from his closet and cleaning materials and sat on the bed. According to the police report, the woman was not worried, as she stated that when Havlin is upset, he cleans his guns. Eventually, Havlin got back up and looked to be putting the gun away, the woman said to police, but then he allegedly shot her in the foot.
After receiving a search warrant, police found different ammunition at the home along with a disabled grenade and materials to make explosives, according to the criminal complaint. Police also found a loaded shotgun, 15 different bottles of steroids along with stringers, and a .44 magnum. Officers said the magnum matched the description of the weapon the victim described being shot with.
