If you’re an ardent Sopranos fan and want to own a bit of pop culture history, now’s your chance. The famed booth at Holsten’s ice cream parlor and restaurant in Bloomfield, where the final scene of The Sopranos was shot, is up for sale.
Holstein’s has announced that it’s auctioning off the booth used in that scene. This little slice of pop culture history is available on eBay here—and as of Friday afternoon, the bidding had surpassed $66,000. The auction ends on March 4 at 10:02 pm.
It’s a fitting coda to the 25th anniversary of the year The Sopranos premiered. Fans still flock to the Soprano house in North Caldwell as well as Holsten’s. It was at this ice cream shop that James Gandolfini, Edie Falco, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Robert Iler filmed the show’s infamous last scene. A plaque at the booth reads: “This Booth Reserved For the Soprano Family.” The spot is on the Sopranos tour, and even sells Sopranos-inspired t-shirts and mugs.
According to Holsten’s Facebook page, they are renovating the restaurant and will be replacing all of the booths there:
“The time has come. All good things sometimes need an upgrade,” the restaurant wrote on Facebook on Wednesday. “The famous Sopranos booth is getting a much needed face-lift. … Obviously, we aren’t going to change the nostalgia of our beloved shoppe…we aren’t crazy! Just polishing up the place!”
The post also says that the owners didn’t want to remove the furniture, but the integrity of the booths are now compromised; they’ve been repaired many times as they are over 60 years old. “Customer safety is a priority for us and should be for our patrons as well. Thank you and we hope you understand!”
In a new book, On Locations: Lessons Learned From My Life on Set With The Sopranos and in the Film Industry, Mark Kamine, the show’s location manager, talks about how the show’s New Jersey backdrop was a key component of the iconic HBO series.
Owning the Sopranos booth could be a perfect ending to that very New Jersey story.
