(WHTM) — Poll workers in Lancaster County will be paid more for their work in upcoming elections following a resolution passed by the Lancaster Board of Elections on Wednesday. This change marks first increase in election day rates in the county since 2016.
In the unanimous vote, the board approved an updated compensation scale, increasing pay for various positions by between $50 and $65 per election.
Judges of election will see an increase from $140 to $200 per election, the maximum single day pay allowed for poll workers by state law.
For majority and minority inspectors, pay will increase from $110 to $175 per election, and for clerks and machine inspectors, pay will increase from $100 to $150 per election.
Election officers will also be paid $20 for attending each training offered by the Board of Elections office ahead of Election Day, a $10 increase from 2016.
“We are fortunate in Lancaster County to have a vibrant team of staff and volunteers that make our elections efficient, safe and secure,” Commissioner Ray D’Agostino, Chairman of the Board of Elections said. “We have heard from other counties across the Commonwealth where recruiting and maintaining poll workers is a struggle. We appreciate the work of those who serve on Election Day in Lancaster County and this increase in compensation says, ‘thank you’ and will help to maintain our poll workers for future elections.”
