A criminal complaint said a Beaver County man is accused of attacking a dog with a hatchet, leading to the dog losing its left ear and requiring surgeries.The incident happened in Aliquippa last Wednesday afternoon.Police said the dog’s owner told them that a dog owned by David Askew III, of Aliquippa, approached him as Askew’s own dog was sniffing the other man’s dog.The owner of the injured dog told police that Askew then pulled out a hatchet and hit his dog in the head before running off.The dog required emergency surgery and police said it will need more surgery in the future.Police said there is surveillance video of Askew leaving the scene and brandishing a hatchet.Askew is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and other offenses.
