ST. MARYS, Pa. (WTAJ) – A children’s playground in Elk County is slated for demolition next week.
The City of St. Marys Department of Parks and Recreation announced on Facebook that “Playland,” the playground located at Memorial Park on Wolfel Avenue, is open for play until 6 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, after which time it will close and be demolished.
The playground has been part of the community since September of 1990 after being constructed by over 1,800 volunteers, according to a sign at the park.
We’re sad to see it go and will remember the memories forever, but the time has come for a new, updated, and accessible playground for everyone…and we can’t wait to show you!!

While the playground is undergoing demolition, the upper half of Memorial Park will be closed for the safety of residents. The bottom half of Memorial Park nearest the Clubhouse will remain open for parking.
