SPRING LAKE — Members of the Spring Lake First Aid Squad including Capt. Howard Rockhill and President Andrea Rodgers gave their end-of-year report to the council during its Feb. 13 meeting, listing statistics about how many calls the squad responded to and the status of its various recruitment efforts.
“I wish to thank all our members for their time, efforts and dedication to serve you, the residents of Spring Lake and Spring Lake Heights,” said Mr. Rockhill. “It takes all of us to do what we do.”
After the squad members’ initial presentation, members of the council asked them questions related to recruitment and logistics, opening a dialogue between the two groups about ways to increase citizen involvement and reduce response time.
The council approved two events for later in the year — one returning event and one new one. The Shark River Surf Anglers fishing club of Belmar will once more hold their annual trout fishing contest, this year on April 6. It will be open to all children ages 15 and younger.
The Spring Lake Business Development Corporation, which manages the Spring Lake Business Improvement District [BID], will hold a new event on July 13, titled the Christmas in July Santa Paddle.
The council also passed multiple resolutions, including one to authorize Monmouth County to conduct aerial mosquito control activity. This will consist of aircraft distributing pesticides around certain areas of the borough that have been identified as containing high populations of mosquitoes.
