WHAT I LOVE IS INDIA SAID. I AM BLESSED. I NEEDED TO HEAR THAT YOU ARE AS SWEET AS PIE. LOVE, CHEYENNE. VALENTINE’S DAY CARDS FROM CHURCHES, SCHOOLS, AND OTHER GROUPS ACROSS THE COMMUNITY. OUR CORPORATE OFFICES PUT OUT SOME INFORMATION ABOUT HOW THIS IS A TOUGH TIME OF YEAR FOR SENIORS, AND WE THEY SUGGESTED THAT MAYBE WE DO SOME VALENTINE’S CARDS FOR THEM. TIM BECKETT SAYS SENIOR HELPERS, A NATIONAL FRANCHISE WHO HELPS PROVIDE IN-HOME, NON-MEDICAL CARE TO SENIOR CITIZENS, SPEARHEADED THE IDEA TO HAVE VALENTINE’S DAY CARDS MADE FOR SENIORS AND SENIOR LIVING COMMUNITIES LIKE PLUM BOROUGHS, LONGWOOD AT OAKMONT. EVERYONE LIKES TO BE THOUGHT OF AND TO KNOW THAT LITTLE CHILDREN ARE MAKING THESE JUST FOR US. I THINK IT’S GREAT TRAINING FOR THEM AND A GREAT DELIGHT FOR US. SENIOR HELPERS SAY THEY’VE GATHERED OVER 6500 CARDS FOR SENIORS IN ABOUT 30 COMMUNITIES ACROSS WESTMORELAND AND ALLEGHENY COUNTIES. IT’S VERY THOUGHTFUL. I MEAN, YOU CAN TELL THEY TOOK TIME. I MEAN, THEY DID THEM VERY, VERY CAREFULLY. I SAID IF I’D BEEN DOING THE HEART WITH THE GLUE, I’D HAVE IT ALL OVER MY WRIST. HUNDREDS OF THOSE CARDS COMING FROM STUDENTS AT BON AIR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. SO IT’S AWESOME. I WISH I WISH SOME OF OUR KIDDOS COULD BE HERE TO SEE IT, BECAUSE THAT WOULD HELP THEM TRULY UNDERSTAND THE THE JOY THAT THEY’RE BRINGING TO EVERYONE. SOME PEOPLE GET A LOT OF VALENTINES AND SOME DON’T, SO THIS MEANS EVERYBODY HERE GETS AT LEAST ONE, AND SENIOR HELPERS TELL ME THAT THEY HAVE HAD SO MUCH SUCCESS WITH THIS. Senior Helpers collect thousands of Valentine’s Day cards for senior citizens
Over 6,000 cards were collected from the community for folks living in senior living facilities, according to Senior Helpers
Older adults in several communities were gifted Valentine’s Day cards from groups, churches and schools across the community Wednesday. “Everyone likes to be thought of and to know that little children are making these just for us, I think it’s great training for them and a great delight for us,” said Carol Emerson, a resident at Longwood at Oakmont Retirement Community.Senior Helpers, a national franchise that works to provide in-home non-medical care to help folks stay at home as long as possible, gathered the cards to deliver them to roughly 30 senior living communities throughout Westmoreland and Allegheny counties.“Our corporate offices put out some information about how this is a tough time of year for seniors, and they suggested we maybe do some Valentine’s Day cards for them,” said Tim Beckes, the owner of Senior Helpers in Greensburg. “We kind of grabbed the idea, ran with it, got the community involved, some schools, churches and other organizations.”Hundreds of the over 6,500 Valentine’s cards made came from Bon Air Elementary School in Lower Burrell.“Senior Helpers reached out to us several weeks ago and asked if we would be interested, and our kids love to create, love to share — it was an easy yes for us,” said principal Jim Croushore. “It’s awesome. I wish some of our kiddos could be here to see it because that would help them truly understand the joy they’re bringing to everyone.”
