CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — In October of 2023, people from four states gathered in Ebensburg to participate in the 3rd annual Chernisky Ghost Town Trail-a-thon.
Funds raised during last years event benefit the expansion, beautification and maintenance of the Cambria County Trails, as well as the upkeep and monthly bills incurred at the Cambria County fire training facility. They raised $33,89.31 last year and held a check presentation ceremony on Friday, Jan. 26 to celebrate.
“Here we have two great organizations, training men and women to save lives, promoting mental and physical well-being and providing economic development, working hand in hand,” Trail-a-thon creator, Tom Chernisky said. “What an excellent fundraiser to be part of, it’s a win-win-win for everyone.”
The race course for the marathon showcased all but 5 miles of the Ghost Town Trail System that sits in Cambria County. All running events finished at Duman Lake County Park where music, food and refreshments were available for all finishers. Participants of the marathon and 15-miler were able to enjoy the recently completed connection of the Ghost Town Trail’s C & I Extension to Duman Lake County Park.
Sixty-four race sponsors assisted in the offset of race costs so that more proceeds could go to the beneficiaries.
“For those sponsors and runners that participated in the events of 2023, we at the association thank you for your continued support,” John Gromley, President of the Cambria County Regional Firefighters Association said.
