Marion A. Mullarkey, 88 of Spring Lake Heights passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, with her beloved daughters at her side. Marion was born in Jersey City and was raised in Rutherford prior to moving to Spring Lake 55 years ago.
As a resident of Spring Lake, she was a devout and dedicated member of St. Catharine Parish. She had volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister and was in charge of the Parish Health Ministry teaching the Healthy Bones Class for 17 years. Marion had obtained her BA and MA in Education from Montclair State University and had been employed as a Registered Nurse for many years for the NJ Department of Education, Trenton, NJ.
Marion took up running at the age of 60 and won several races in her Age Group. If Marion wasn’t running a race, she was cheering on her family or volunteering for races. She was a lifelong Giants fan who attended many a home game. Marion loved watching any sport that her grandchildren were playing from T-ball games to College sports. She had a unique talent in that she could remove any stain from her family’s clothing. Marion loved serving her community, always enjoyed an ice cream at Sundae’s and going to NYC to see a Broadway show. But what she loved most was her family and she showed her love for them every day of her life.
She was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Evelyn (née Fox) Anthony and her brother William Hamilton.
Surviving are her devoted daughters and their spouses, Kathleen and Michael Scotto of Spring Lake, Eileen and William Cashman of New York, NY, Maureen and Edward Maypother of Wall Twp., Kristine and Rob Forcillo of Manasquan, Susan and Kenneth Koch of Sea Girt, her 11 grandchildren Michael and Sarah Scotto, Thomas and Megan Scotto, John and Casey Scotto, Kathryn Scotto, Emily, Jennifer and Matthew Forcillo, and Shane, Brody, Riley and Logan Maypother, and her 2 great grandchildren Jack and Madelyn Scotto.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 10:00am in St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake. Please go directly to the Church on Friday, no procession from the funeral home prior to Mass. Entombment will be in St Catharine Cemetery Mausoleum, Sea Girt.
