Doris Jean Flood Hayes of Belmar, NJ, passed away peacefully on January 11 after a long and happy life. She was 87 years old.
Born in Newark, Doris moved with her family to Belmar in 1939. Doris attended St Rose Grammar and High Schools, where she met and married her beloved husband of 64 years, Robert H., who survives her. She is also survived by her children, MaryAnn Hayes, Wall; Dennis Hayes, Egg Harbor Township; and Kathleen McCarthy, Oakland. Doris is also survived by her grandchildren Colleen Mason, Meghan Harris, Michael Hayes, John Hayes, Grace McCarthy, and Thomas McCarthy. She is also blessed with a great-grandson, Oakley Harris.
Doris is predeceased by her parents, Joseph J. and Mary A. (Noonan) Flood and her brothers, John, Joseph, and Martin Flood, as well as her sister, Betty Blackman.
Doris was a lifelong parishioner of St. Rose Roman CatholicChurch in Belmar. Doris began her career working for Prudential, in Asbury Park, as a secretary. After taking time to raise her children, Doris was employed as a secretary for Belmar Elementary School. She then worked for the Borough of Belmar for 23 years, retiring as Deputy Borough Clerk. During retirement, she worked as a secretary for Reilly Funeral Home in Belmar.
Doris volunteered for the Spring Lake Chapter of Deborah Hospital, serving as President for several years. Doris also enjoyed volunteering her time with the Belmar Historical Society.
Doris was always so proud of her Irish heritage. She loved living life to the fullest, traveling to Ireland, Alaska, California, and through the Panama Canal during her retirement. Doris always loved a party, especially a family party. She was a real people person. She was genuine and loved many people.
Visitation was held on Sunday, January 14, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Reilly Bonner Funeral Home, 8th Avenue and D Street, Belmar. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 15, at 10:30 am also at Reilly Bonner Funeral Home, 8th Avenue and D Street, Belmar.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Deborah Heart and Lung Center, 200 Trenton Road, Browns Mills, NJ, 08015, would be greatly appreciated.
