FIRST TEAM
F – Amelia Foore, Sr., WC Rustin – If there was a goal for the Golden Knights, it was a good chance that Foore would be involved. Whether scoring herself or providing an assist, the senior was involved in a majority of Rustin’s tally this season. Foore’s track acumen played into her soccer success, providing speed and endurance, along with a skilled right foot. Foore capped her Rustin career by being named the Ches-Mont League American Division MVP along with being an All-Southeastern Pa. and All-State selection.
F – Carly Catania, Sr., Villa Maria – The senior who was one of the captains for the Hurricanes, tallied 14 goals to go along with 7 assists on the season. She was voted the team’s offensive MVP. Her accolades included being MVP runnerup in the AACA and named to the first team and a member of the All-Southeastern Pa. squad. A two-sport star at Villa, Catania has scored a number of big goals for Villa. She repeats from the 2022 All-Area first team.
F – Olivia Brey, Sr., Westtown – The senior and Delaware recruit missed her first two seasons due to Covid and a knee injury and still passed the 100-goal mark for her career. Combing strength and speed, she was nearly impossible to knocke off the ball once she attained possession. Was named to the all-state team.
M – Keira Kemmerley, Soph., Conestoga — Combined with her sister, Player of the Year Kate, to form a strong scoring duo. Kemmerley was also strong on defense for the Pioneers. She scored against Manheim Township in the state playoffs. Kemmerley’s size and strength made her hard to knock off the ball, while her vision enabled her to make the right pass at the right time.
M – Eden Veenema, Sr., Avon Grove – Veenema made the first team last year as a defender, this season, she showed her versatility by making it as a midfielder. She was as good as a two-way player in the area. She can expertly defend, then turn around to play provider. She finished in double digits in goals and assists. Veenema was named the Ches-Mont National MVP and was also selected to the All-State team.
M – Madison Shumate, Sr., Downingtown East — Shumate was runnerup to Veenema in the National Division MVP race. When the Cougars needed a big goal, she was usually there to provide it or help set it up. She is a three-year selection to the All-Area team. Shumate’s pace and soccer acumen made her dangerous from just about every spot in the offensive half. Will continue her career next year at Villanova.
D – Jenn Ely, Sr., West Chester Rustin – One of the better defensive players on one of the better defensive teams. Ely can also score, but she made being a lockdown defender her stock in trade. She was a first-team All-Ches-Mont American Division selection.
D – Marissa Francione, Sr., Conestoga – A lockdown defender who was part of an air-tight unit, Francione was part of a team that gave up goals grudgingly. She will head to the University of Scranton for basketball.
D – Bailey Horvath, Sr., Downingtown East – A key component to one one of the best defenses in the Ches-Mont League. The Cougars recorded seven shutouts in their last 10 regular season games. A tremendous one-on-one marker, Horvath can also jump up and contribute on the offensive end.
G – Kaelyn Phouthavongsa, Jr., Oxford – The junior kept Oxford in many game with her athleticism and her shot-stopping abilty. She was tabbed for the All-Southeastern Pa. team.

COACH OF THE YEAR
Deane Mariotti, Conestoga
The Pioneers had another successful season as second-year coach Mariotti guided them to a 21-4 record and their third PIAA 4A title appearance since 2019. Backed by a stingy defense and an explosive offense ‘Stoga went through the Central League unbeaten, en route to a 15-2 regular season mark. They fell only to Springside Chestnut Hill and Downingtown East. They posted nine shutouts while scoring five or more goals 10 times.
They were the top seed in the District 1 4A Tournament and advanced to the finals with wins over Plymouth Whitemarsh, Central Bucks East and Council Rock South. They fell to Pennridge, 1-0, in the championship game, The script repeated itself in the PIAA Tournament, they reached the title game, winning their three games by a combined 8-2 margin. They met them nemesis, Pennridge, in the final and lost again, this time by a 4-1 score.
“It was a great season,” said Mariotti. “From the first week of training, the girls bought in and worked hard and competed.”
