Bruce (Mickey) Mokracek, 82, of Brick, NJ, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, December 12th. The son of Vincent and Vera Mokracek, and the youngest of six children, Mickey was born and raised in Point Pleasant Borough. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Patricia (Galligan) Mokracek, his daughter Dawn Mokracek of California, his daughter Kelly Harris and her husband Brad Harris of Point Pleasant Borough, daughter Michelle Mokracek of Oceanport, granddaughters Corina Collins, Harper Harris, and Sage Harris, sister Catherine Walsh of Newcomb, NY, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mickey worked at the original Mike’s subs on Arnold Ave for many years, where his winning smile was a hit with customers. Mickey had a huge heart and a generous spirit and was always ready to lend a willing hand with construction projects, being a skilled handyman and Jack of all trades. Mickey was the proprietor of a successful painting business from 1981 until his “retirement” in 2016, although he could be seen helping his family and friends for many years afterwards with his trusty van and painting equipment.
Mickey was always ready to sit back and relax and have a beer and conversation with family, friends, and anyone who happened to make his acquaintance. He welcomed his children’s friends over with open arms and they all have many fond memories of times spent at the pool at the house on Cardinal Drive. The Mokracek family had a tradition of “Sunday Funday” where friends and neighbors would gather to have a beer and delicious treats. Mickey enjoyed preparing healthy meals for his family and was a great cook. He managed to maintain the delicate balance of clean healthy eating while enjoying a good party like no one else.
Mickey will truly be missed by all who knew him. The family will host a celebration of life in the Summer of 2024.
Services are entrusted to Jersey Shore Cremation, 43 Taylor Ave, Manasquan, NJ.
