The 2023 Main Line high school field hockey featured a solid number of championship teams. Villa Maria Academy (22-4) was PIAA 2A state champions, as well as District 1 2A champs and AACA champions. Other local champions included Academy of Notre Dame (21-1, undefeated Inter-Ac champions), Conestoga (23-1, Central League and District 1 3A champions, state quarterfinalist) and Archbishop Carroll (17-6, Catholic League and District 12 champion).
Other strong local teams included Radnor (17-7, District 1 2A runnerup and state quarterfinalist), Haverford High (15-5), Agnes Irwin (13-8-1), Episcopal Academy (13-11, second place in Inter-Ac) and Shipley (11-4).
The All-Main Line high school field hockey teams are selected by the coaches. Because Main Line Media News covers 19 high schools, the Main Line Media News sports staff limits the number of spots available to first team, second team and honorable mention – but follows the priority of the coaches’ selections.
What follows are the 2023 All-Main Line high school field hockey teams:
FIRST TEAM
Saylor Milone, Academy of Notre Dame – Senior forward, the Inter-Ac’s Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row, scored 62 goals and led the league in goals, assists and points. University of Michigan commit was named to the NFHCA All-Region First Team.
Maeve Seeger, Academy of Notre Dame – Senior midfielder/defender, s repeat first team All-Main Line selection, was an impact player at midfield for the Inter-Ac champions. Boston College commit was an all-around performer who chipped in with three goals and three assists.
Sienna Golden, Archbishop Carroll – Senior midfielder, the Catholic League’s Most Valuable Player, scored 40 goals and dished out 16 assists. The Ohio State commit broke Carroll’s all-time record in career goals scored (125).
Beth Wineburg, Archbishop Carroll – Senior defender, a first team All-Catholic League selection, was a key performer in the Patriots’ defense and was named was the team’s Most Outstanding Player.
Caroline Chisholm, Agnes Irwin – Junior midfielder/forward, a first team All-Inter-Ac selection, tallied 20 goals, 12 assists and 67 caused attacking corners. Boston College commit (for both field hockey and lacrosse) is a two-sport standout who has 100 career points for the Owls.
Shae Wozniak, Conestoga – Junior forward, a first team All-Central League and All-Region selection, tallied 52 goals and 10 assists. A repeat first team All-Main Line pick, she has committed to Duke University to play field hockey.
Lexi Patterson, Conestoga – Junior midfielder, a first team All-Central League selection, is noted for her quickness, intelligence and all-around skill. Committed to the University of Michiogan to play field hockey.
Alex Lepore, Conestoga – Senior goalie allowed only 15 goals and posted 102 saves, recording 10 shutouts, including the District 1 championship final. A repeat first team All-Main Line selection, she will play field hockey for Temple University.
Rebecca Block, Episcopal Academy – Sophomore midfielder, a first team All-Inter-Ac selection, was considered the top performer on an EA squad that competed against 10 teams that were ranked nationally. Received EA’s High Scorer Award.
Grace Murphy, Episcopal Academy – Senior center back and captain, a first team All-InterAc selection, was the Churchwomen’s top defender with 10 defensive saves and recipient of the Team of 1994 Field Hockey Award.
Julia Cognetti, Harriton – Junior midfielder and captain, a first team All-Central League selection, was Most Valuable Player of a Rams squad that posted a solid 9-7 record this fall. An all-around performer who scored three goals and dished out three assists.
Brooke Parker, Haverford High – Junior center back/midfielder and captain was the Fords’ Most Valuable Player and is noted for her superior stick skills, passing and poise. Bucknell commit was an all-around performer (three goals, two assists) who was the key player on offensive and defensive corners.
Erin Coyle, Haverford High – Senior forward and captain was the Fords’ Offensive MVP, scoring 15 goals and dishing out six assists. Noted for her explosive speed, exceptional elimination skills and ability to force corners.
Margaret Dowd, Merion Mercy Academy – Junior defender, a first team All-AACA selection and a Fairfield University commit, is valued for her fierce competitiveness, superb stick skills, fine game sense, leadership and versatility.
Alexandra De Cain, Radnor – Junior attacking center mid and captain, a first team All-Central League and NFHCA All-Region selection, tallied 27 goals and dished out eight assists. Noted for her speed, quickness on the ball in transition to attack and feisty defensive play, she is a Boston College commit.
Grayson Buono, Radnor – Senior defensive center midfielder and captain, a first team All-Central League selection, she was valued for her physical dominance, good game sense, vocal leadership, fine vision and distribution skills.
Riley Barusevicius, Shipley – Senior center midfielder and captain was a repeat first team All-Friends Schools League pick and All-Main Line selection, scoring nine goals and dishing out a trio of assists. Will play for Trinity College next fall.
Caitlin Connell, Villa Maria Academy – Sophomore forward was the AACA’s Most Valuable Player and an NFHCA All-Region First Tea selection, scoring 62 goals and dishing out 20 assists for the PIAA 2A state field hockey champions.
Jack Shaw, Villa Maria Academy – Freshman midfielder, a first team all-state and All-AACA selection, tallied 14 assists and five goals for the PIAA 2A state champions. Noted for her work rate, overall talent and distribution skill, she was involved heavily in both attack and defensive corners.
Callen Todd, Villa Maria Academy – Senior center back and captain, a first team all-state and All-AACA selection, was co-MVP of PIAA 2A state champion Hurricanes. JMU commit was valued for her leadership and all-around play, she was involved in all the defensive corners with a pivotal role and some attack as well.
SECOND TEAM
Academy of Notre Dame – Reese Czajkowski, senior midfielder; Kiera Sack, sophomore forward; Reese Milone, sophomore midfielder; Maeve McGinley, freshman midfielder.
Agnes Irwin – Alison Gerber, senior defender; Catherine Sharkey, senior forward; Gabby Lee, freshman midfielder.
Archbishop Carroll – Sam Hewitt, senior midfielder; Emma Grant, freshman defender.
Conestoga – Aubrey DelOrefice, sophomore defender; Peyton Esposito, freshman forward; Hannah Simon, junior midfielder.
Episcopal Academy – Paige McMeekin, senior forward; Bella Notaro, senior forward; Kiley Gallagher, senior midfielder; Isabel Andrews, senior goalie.
