Stowe Township police said they are searching for a missing teenager living with Down syndrome who was last seen Friday morning.Police said Kayla Durler, 17, was dropped off at Sto-Rox High School around 7 a.m.”School was closed today due to a utilities emergency, but there was a miscommunication which resulted in her being dropped off at school,” police said in the statement.Allegheny County police, who are assisting in the search, have shared an image captured at 10:15 a.m. on Stanwix Street in downtown Pittsburgh, where it’s believed that Kayla got off a Pittsburgh Rapid Transit bus.Police told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that Kayla was dropped off at school after traveling from a group home in West Mifflin. She stayed around the school for a while and talked to someone who told her to stick around, but she left. She went to a convenience store, then got on a PRT bus at Broadway and Dale streets just before 10 a.m. The 24 bus route was headed for downtown.Police said they are working with PRT to see what happened after Kayla got on the bus.The Sto-Rox School District said Kayla is about 4 feet, 11 inches tall and was last seen wearing glasses, a green coat, black pants, pink shoes and a purple backpack.Anyone who has information on Kayla’s whereabouts is asked to call Stowe Township police at 412-331-4043.”As we communicated to ABC Transit on Thursday night, classes at the Jr./Sr. High School were scheduled to be conducted virtually on Friday. We are still trying to ascertain why this student was dropped off and not taken directly home,” the school district said in its statement. “Sto-Rox School District takes the safety and security of students extremely seriously. Once administrators learned about this situation, we immediately contacted law enforcement and started working with them to locate the student in question.”
