Otto ‘Jim’ James Kazenmayer passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 23, 2023, just shy of his 95th birthday. Jim was born and raised in East Orange, New Jersey, and was predeceased by his parents, Otto and Eleanor (Kenah) Kazenmayer, and sister Barbara (Kazenmayer) Medina. He leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 68 years, Margaret ‘Marge’ (Develly) Kazenmayer; his three children Mary Ellen (Jim) Johnson, Jim (Lorraine) Kazenmayer, and Peggy (Roy) Parker; his grandchildren Jeff, Kim, Megan, Lauren, James, Emily, and Leah; his 10 great-grandchildren; his brother Charles (Helen) Kazenmayer, sister-in-law Anne Breslauer, and brothers-in-law Michael Develly and Jerry Medina. He is also survived by a long and cherished list of extended family and friends.
Jim served with honor in the United States Army during the Korean War. Shortly after leaving the service, he was initiated into the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers (IBEW) Local 52 / LU 164 and remained a dedicated member for 68 years. He was a devout Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years. He was a long-time parishioner of St. Denis Parish where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and usher.
Jim loved the Jersey Shore and the beaches of Fort Myers, Florida, where he and Marge wintered for over 20 years. He lived an active lifestyle and enjoyed golfing, swimming, square-dancing, riding bikes, traveling, woodworking and other crafting. Jim was an avid sports fan and never passed on a chance to watch any sporting event. In particular, he loved the Yankees and the Giants, and he especially loved cheering on his grandchildren and his hometown teams. He also enjoyed an occasional glass of good scotch; specifically, the Johnny Walker Blue he won in a bet with his son-in-law.
Jim never met a stranger; he delighted in making new friends and sharing his many stories along the way. A firm believer in upholding his civic duty, Jim was always there to offer a helping hand. This included helping to start the Manasquan Soccer Club, assisting with the Manasquan canoe race, and serving as an early member of the Manasquan Elks Club and an election observer for many years.
Above all, Jim cherished time spent with his loved ones. Nothing was more important than the family connection, and he embraced each new addition with joy and flourish. His life was a blessing and memories of him will be treasured by everyone who knew and loved him. He was Superman to his family and will be missed greatly by all of “his” girls and boys.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday February 3, 2024, from 9:30 am to 10;30 am at St Denis Church 90 Union Avenue Manasquan, NJ 08736. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 am.
