Richard M. Parrish Ed.D., 77, of Wall Twp. NJ passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Richard was surrounded by loving family members with wonderful care received at Shorrock Gardens in Brick, NJ.
Richard was born in Trenton, NJ and lived 25 years in Ewing Twp., NJ. He was a longtime resident of Toms River before moving to Wall Twp. and Southport, N.C.
Richard obtained his Bachelor’s Degree at Trenton State College, his Master’s Degree from Columbia University. He received his Doctorate from Rutgers University in 1983.
Richard was a researcher and planner at heart working diligently for 40 years at Ocean County College, retiring in 2011 as Vice President of Administration.
Richard was instrumental in the formation of the Ocean County College Southern Education Center in Manahawkin, NJ.
Richard was an avid golfer and a determined bowler and bocci player. He could never turn down a game of bridge or pass up a game of poker with his friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine Foley Parrish (formerly Moore). Richard’s greatest love was for his family, especially his children Kimberly Thomas (Fiancé Kevin Amey) Mount Holly, NJ and Michael Parrish (Angela) of Irving, TX and his stepdaughters Tracy Moore Handerhan (William), Shannon Moore Rossi (Peter) and Diana Moore Cingari (Michael). Richard’s greatest blessings were his beautiful grandchildren Kara, Haley, Austin, Julia, Sara, Emma, Anthony and Ellie. Richard was predeceased by his parents Elizabeth Hoagland Parrish and Orville Parrish and his brother Douglas Parrish of North Carolina.
Visitation will be at O’Brien Funeral Home 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall Twp. on Tuesday January 2, 2024 from 3-7pm. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024, 10:30am at the funeral home followed by committal in St. Anne Cemetery, Wall.
