Folks packed the Pennsylvania Macaroni Company Friday morning, ahead of the Christmas holiday on Monday. The 121-year-old Italian grocery store is known for it’s imported Italian foods and deli meats and cheeses. “It’s a family tradition for not only us, our employees and our customers. We’ve all worked here since we were in elementary school,” said Dave Sunseri, co-owner and President of the PennMac Co. “It’s a lot of fun, I’ve been doing it my whole life. (This is) all we know.”For four generations, the Sunseri family has been selling specialty foods in the Strip District. Days ahead of the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, the family-owned business gets packed with folks placing orders at the deli.Rosa Aiello has been coming to PennMac for the last 30 years to gather what she needs for her Feast of Seven Fishes.“I was born in Italy and I came over (to America) 57 years ago,” said Aiello. “I live about two and a half hours away from here, so we left around 4:30 this morning.” Aiello was not the only family Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 spoke with that made a lengthy drive to the Strip District.“We come to celebrate Christmas, we get all the meats and the cheeses and the fish,” said Danielle Sciarro. “My husband started it, ever since he was with his dad and they came down, they do the Seven Fishes for Christmas Eve and so we just continued it.”“It’s wonderful, the people here, Dave and all the brothers, they’ve been really nice over the years,” Aiello told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4. “Very good memories here, for 30 years.”
