(LAMBERTVILLE, NJ) — On Sunday, December 17, 2023 at 3:00pm, the ACME Screening Room presents “Lambertville Hearts Oaxaca: How a Small Town Got to Know Their Mexican Neighbors”. This free end-of-the-year community celebration features the first look at the film created from footage at the August Oaxaca Festival hosted by the Lambertville Free Library. Along with special guests and residents who participated, they will have a post screening discussion, followed by a lively, treat-filled reception.
The film is directed and produced by Lambertville resident, Trina Bardusco. and made possible with funds from the Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners, administered by the Hunterdon County Cultural & Heritage Commission.
Most of the Hispanic population in the small town of Lambertville, New Jersey, hails from Oaxaca, Mexico. Though this growing population started migrating to Lambertville thirty years ago, most residents have been unaware of their heritage—until now. This short documentary highlights the history of Hispanics in Lambertville, explores the challenges in getting to know each other, and shows how the Oaxacans and the greater community put together the first-ever Oaxaca Festival held at the Lambertville Free Library, to celebrate their vibrant culture, fostering unity and stronger community connections.
Tickets to attend are by donation with all proceeds benefiting the making of the film and the ACME Screening Room during their 2023 Annual Appeal. For more information and to register to attend, visit the website at www.acmescreeningroom.org.
ACME Screening Room is located at 25 S Union Street in Lambertville, New Jersey. It is a nonprofit weekend theater that presents classic, independent, and documentary films to educate and inspire.
